Remember Deliverance? Picture the scene with the kid picking the banjo in a duel with the guitar player and then click on the link to the forum hosted by a guy who just might be the kid's dad.
While there can be no doubt that independence from oil is our ultimate goal and that commercial businesses that are involved in storing liquified nitrogen gas are doing it solely for profit and cannot be trusted to keep the general populace safe, do some research as to who you will be climbing into bed with before you head on down to Warrenton and plunk $25 down to support efforts against LNG storage and delivery companies. Check out the forum where locals plan their strategies.
Read how this particular group of local boxer brief agitators display their ignorance and prejudice against the indigenous people, women and just about anyone else who doesn't think in their narrow, pointed view.
Take, for instance, their use of the Clatsops. This native tribe, who has been discriminated against and hasn't had any local support in their fight for Federal recognition, are now being discussed as if they were pawns to be used. In a story one of the forum members wrote up ("based" on actual events) a Clatsop woman witnesses the destruction of her village at the hands of white men. The STORY is discussed as to how it can be used to incite anger against the local government for leasing land to LNG companies while the local, present day Indians themselves are completely disregarded!
You can read how well the blog cronies tolerate questions. A great sport is lashing out at people if the question implies that someone doesn't fully agree with the forum moderator's point of view or any of the regulars. From the way in which some people post, the moderator appears to invite people to come to the forum so that he can take pock shots at them in front of everyone.
Sadly, you will see that the list is mostly men and the few women that post are quickly pounced on and scathingly lambasted, unless they stroke the moderator's ... ego.
You will get to read a few tired remarks on LNG storage tanks and how the government wants them in low population areas, hence the placement of them in Warrenton, Oregon. Where, in the words of the forum members themselves, the drop out rate is as high as the apathy (and, if the forum is any indication, as high as the people inhabiting the town?).
If Warrenton residents want help from people in the rest of Oregon in combating the LNGs then my advice to Warrenton would be to stay clear of using www.bridgecity.homestead.com as a tool to do so. Its moderator writes like he is a misogynist and the forum contributors whine or retaliate vengefully if they feel their viewpoint on life is challenged.
If the forum is an example of the kind of people to be found at an anti-LNG rally then you might want to consider if it is safe, much less worth your time, to attend their April 23rd event.

Don't let yourself get distracted with personalities, humans have been known to say one thing and do another.
I am against it. I used to live in Astoria for about 10 years and I value the what natural environment is left. If the LNG terminal experiences a major accident, more than jobs will be lost.
As long as oil has significant monetary value, we will be dependant on oil because those decisions are not made by you or I. They are made by others (House of Fahd, House of Bush, etc.).
Have a nice day.
