Radio La Luna, community radio station in Ecuador, needs help!
Radio La Luna, an Ecuadorian community radio station, is being harrassed and interefered.

If you have any interest in helping to set up a webpage for donations, a paypal account, or other assistance, please contact me and I'll give you more information. I'm planning a trip to south america in a few months, and would like to help or coordinate this effort.

Solidarity with Radio la Luna and the Ecuadorian people

During the last few days Radio La Luna, the station that has been the
voice of the civil disobedience of the people of Quito, has been
interfered with and silenced.

Over the past 6 days, this station has opened its microphones so that
the people could freely express their opinions and proposals on the
political future of Ecuador. In this way, it has accompanied the diverse
citizen mobilizations that are demanding that Colonel Lucio Gutierrez,
President of the Republic of Ecuador, step down.

All evidence indicates that the Ecuadorian government is responsible for
the repeated interference and power losses that Radio La Luna has
suffered since Sunday the 17th. To engage in this type of electronic
warfare requires highly specialized equipment and techniques.

We believe that the silencing of Radio La Luna is an attack against the
Freedom of Expression and against the communication rights of thousands
of citizens of the Ecuadorian capital.

We forcefully call on the Ecuadorian authorities to cease hostilities
and attacks against Radio La Luna, and to unequivocally respect the free
right of people to express their ideas and opinions through popular
communications media.

We also express our solidarity with our colleagues from Radio La Luna
and we encourage them to remain strong in the struggle to democratize
the media, and to contribute in this way to the construction of a
participatory democracy in our countries.
