TriMet's new war on the poor

According to The Oregonian, TriMet's citizens advisory board is concerned about crime and fare evasion outside the area in downtown Portland Fareless Square, a hallmark of downtown Portland's transit hub since 1975, may be headed for major modification -- or elimination -- because of concerns about security and fare evasion.

Since the 1970s, TriMet's "Fareless Square" has been a revolutionary hallmark in public policy, preventing traffic jams and reducing parking nightmares in central city. This system is directly responsible for a livable and pedestrian-centered downtown.
