How about taxing the RECIPIENTS of estates?

Republicans have taken up their whining about what they call the horrible "death tax" -- taxes on estates or inheritances.

Here's a proposal: let's drop the "death tax" like they want to do, BUT LET'S MAKE ALL INCOME RECEIVED BY WAY OF BEING BORN INTO A RICH FAMILY AS TAXABLE AS INCOME EARNED BY PLAIN OLD FASHIONED WORKING FOR A LIVING!

You see, the income tax is primarily on EARNED income, a little (less all the time) on income from investments, and then on income from gambling or chance. But NOT on gifts or inheritances that you RECEIVE -- presumably because that was already taxed by gift and inheritance taxes paid by the giver or the estate. Well, except for tips to waiters -- but, see, that's the real difference -- that might have been EARNED!
Although the Republicans never talk about it, inheritances aren't taxable for the recipients of them. So when they do away with what they call the "death tax" -- they are just extending their program, which is -- NO TAXES for anyone EXCEPT WORKING FAMILIES!

What the Republicans also don't say is that the old (pre-Bush) system of inheritance taxes already protected mom-and-pop outfits such as family farms.

But to be fair about it -- not all Republicans are gung-ho for this kind of thing anymore, because they see a huge flock of chickens coming in to roost and poop all over their parade (like in November, 2006) due to the insane budget deficits that keep adding to the $$TRILLIONS$$ of national debt. But the true believers are still plugging away at it. Trying to push it through the congress.

WHAT IT IS -- make sure that the super-rich keep getting richer by borrowing on the backs or young workers and future generations ! !

They'd just spend it on WAR 13.Apr.2005 22:32

Bear

About half of federal taxes go to military spending. Why give them any more than they're already getting? It would be different if we lived in a civilized country where taxes were utilized for the good of the people. But that's not the case here.

How about the government stick to the legal constitutional form of taxation? Corporate income and excise taxes and tariffs are the constitutionally mandated tax system. Any tax on the fruits of one's labors is unAmerican and illegal.

Halliburton, KBR, Dynacorp, all Oil company profits, war profiteers like Carlyle Group and lastly the windfall profits of private stock holders of the Federal Reserve would finally pay legal taxes. The illegal taxing schemes have turned the original model of taxes on its head. The workers pay onerous and illegal taxes to support the welfare of coporate monopolists.

Turn the system back to its original form and voila we have all the necessary funds to operate legitimate government functions.
