get involved with June Bike Fun

Taking commitments now for June festival of cycling events.
17 days and 70 events, covering much of Portland and Vancouver and including bike parades, a mystery ride, bike polo, bike-in movies, workshops, breakfasts, parties, cookouts, superhero/villain ride, Zoobombs, and an all-day festival at a park... that was last year, the Pedalpalooza festival organized by local cycling enthusiasts and sponsored by the Portland Mercury, City of Portland Office of Transportation, and New Belgium Brewing.

Happening again in June, the content of the festival depends on YOU, the enthusiastic pedal-powered people who host events. Have an idea for an event? Tell us about it, it's very easy to have your event included in the festival. If you're sure about making an event happen, all we need for the calendar is the basic info: date, time, place, and a short description. You can figure out all the details later, and we can help you publicize and organize.

Some history: after the stunningly successful BikeSummer 2002 festival in Portland, an international festival which visits a different city each year, some cyclists got together to talk about making events happen all year, every year. This eventually became "Shift to Bikes", basically a loosely organized group of people, a mail list, online calendar, email calendar, and printed calendar. Shift is not as much an organization as it is a conduit for channelling Bike Fun. Check it out at:
