Our Community First! Brings Together Business Owners, Land Use Activists, Consumers, Union Members in Opposition to Wal-Mart Superstore in Bend

Our Community First! is a grassroots organization of residents, business owners, land use activists, neighborhood representatives, consumers, and union members who have come together to raise public awareness and organize community opposition to the proposed Wal-Mart superstore.

One immediate goal of Our Community First! is to push for Wal-Mart to hold a community-wide meeting on this project that will provide everyone full opportunity to raise concerns about how the 203,000 square foot store will impact the local environment, traffic patterns, and the economy of our community.

Our Community First! is accepting financial donation from anyone who wants to contribute to this campaign. Please join us in the fight to put OUR COMMUNITY FIRST!

snurf and smurf

Walmart is trying to rip off truckers too. Forcing a longer work day (with a 2 hour non paid break) and charging truckers for unlouding Walmart produce. I believe that a skilled person who works with unions could convience independent truckers to strike on Walmart as a unified front against "The Empire".

Here is one article:

Businesses Lobbying to Make Truckers Work Longer
March 9, 2005, 03:56 AM PST

A lot of truck drivers probably already think they work long days and nights, but Walmart and other retailers are lobbying Congress to make those work days 2 hours longer.

Current rules limit a trucker's workday to 14 hours. Safety advocates don't like the proposed change, saying an increase would make roads more dangerous for everyone.

WALMART BANNING TRUCK PARKING 09.May.2006 18:23

R.E. SCOTT

walmart used to be known as the truckers safe haven, now everywhere you go there are no truck parking signs up . we live in clinton in., but my husband drives everywhere and there is nowhere to pull over. the truck stops fill up early because the truckers know there won't be anywhere to sleep. i personally think truckers should boycott walmart and kmart for that matter because kmart doesn't let trucks park there either. they have to put in so many hours to make a decent living it's not going to kill these big stores to let them park there. just where do they think everything comes from in there store? that's right "truckers". keeping them on the road longer is just plain stupid. thank you.
