This summer, you can take an extraordinary journey through Southern
Cascadia. Tune up your bicycle and pack your bags for an incredible
excursion across Oregon, utilizing the most sustainable method of
transportation available: your own bike.

* Spend time with Native American communities, work with salmon
restoration and indigenous building practices.

* Visit beautiful public lands and gain firsthand experience in low
impact camping.

* Study and apply the philosophies of permaculture, alternative
building, appropriate technology and sustainable energy.

* Gain a deeper understanding of how organic food is grown, and
distributed.

* Explore some of the most beautiful places in Oregon while learning
about natural history, deep ecology, and environmental ethics.

* Observe local economics projects and grassroots democracy struggles
in places through which you travel.

* Participate in a traveling community of twenty cyclists coming from
a variety of backgrounds with a shared longing for a better world.

* Discover consensus decision-making and use it to make collective
decisions within your community.

* Learn about nutrition, health and fitness through long-distance
cycling.

* Raise money for a permanent peace and justice community space in
Portland, meet incredible people and have a great summer.

You can journey for one week, two weeks, or an entire month! Each of
the routes feature unique hosts and learning oppurtunities. You can
travel from Portland to the Coast, south through the Williamette
Valley, to the California border, or intimate rides throughout the
Portland Metro Area.

I like this kind of thing, and believe it may be the way of the future, but so many things like this forget about the children. What in the world are we doing, trying to save the world, if we are not doing it for children. A child can't reasonably and sustainably bike around with this group, and if someone(s) should pull children along in a trailer, then they should not be seen as slowing this venture down in any way. To have a child is to be natural, and should be the model upon which society is built. Have you all thought about this? Imagine yourself as an activist child--how would you feel if the adults who were pushing forward for right life choices excluded you from your own future?
