KBOO community radio will have programming all day in solidarity with International Women's day.
Loaves & Fishes Centers, The Meals-On-Wheels People, and Neighborhood House Senior Center will celebrate International Women's Day with a special lunch and live entertainment.
Roslyn Farrington, executive director of the Oregon Women's Commission, and a group of international musicians will join the celebration. The event will take place from 1-4 p.m. March 8 in the auditorium at the Multnomah Arts Center, 7688 S.W. Capitol Highway. Performers include Tamara Yurovskaya, Vladimir Tarasenko, Inna Karakuts and Marsha Mitkova.
International Women's Day is an occasion marked by women's groups around the world. This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. The idea of an International Women's Day first arose at the turn of the century as a way to recognize the work women around the world have done to achieve equality, justice, peace and development.
Today in Brazil - more than 30,000 women are estimated to be in the streets to honor women and the revolutionary work they do every day.
In Turkey women went to the streets and an estimated 63 have been arrested
