Historic public meeting: The creation of a nationwide alternative currency.
A Better World Is Within Reach - People's Empowerment And Collective Exchange (P.E.A.C.E.) Network

Are you ready to become a part of a nontraditional solution to an international crisis? Are you ready to help solve the crisis of multinational corporations which are orchestrating the world's dependence on oil-promoted warfare, destroying our environment, promoting child labor and sweatshops, and reducing employee wages and worker protections? If so, then you are ready to learn about the People's Empowerment And Collective Exchange dollar, also known as the peace dollar. We welcome your questions. We welcome your questions because it is time. It is actually way past time. Time for the people to come together. A Better World Is Within Reach (ABWWR) Peace Network is currently looking for volunteers to join a network of nationwide communities who are interested in creating a nationwide alternative community currency! ABWWR Peace Network has seven different communities which will form the entire network.

Those seven communities are:

+Peace Activist Support Community

+Public Access Accounting Community

+Peace Dollar Daily Operations Community

+The Nationwide Person-to-Person, Grassroots Outreach Caravan

+Future Planners Community - The planners of the electronic peace dollar debit card - Project Completion date-June 2010

+Alternative Media Community

+ New Member Recruitment

Currently, all positions are volunteer positions. Some independent volunteer positions only require 2 hours per year.

However, by June of 2006, we plan to provide a stipend to each and ever volunteer for every 20 hours of work. In many community currency programs throughout the world, all members of community currency programs are volunteers but we want to create a program which not only helps meet the needs of the people, but the needs of the volunteers. A community of communities: A Better World Is Within Reach - Peace Network.

first, i disagree with any attmepts at nationalism and especially creating a national alternative currency. part of the problem with the american empire is that it is so big and diverse and because of that there is a large lack of unity and common interest. if you all were working toward a cascadian currency and working to build a sustainable network in cascadia, that would be intersting.

however, i dont think that you all are that interested in sustainability or peace at all. i looked at your webiste and you have an event coming up in north portland. i found it ironic that you are fighting for peace and alternatives yet you only gave driving directions. cars (yes, even public buses, although they are better) are a form of violence against the environment. why not encourage folks to bike there? or, why not at least give biking directions? that is like exluding a target audinece.

i also didnt find anywhere on the site information about this PEACE network. some background information would be nice.

I agree with you on most of the points you made. I'll respond to them below:

>first, i disagree with any attmepts at nationalism and especially creating a >national alternative currency.

There are community currencies that permit government organizations to be a part of them.

You can read about some of them on this website  http://communitycurrency.org/resources.html which we are not affiliated with.

The Peace Dollar is a community empowerment currency which does not permit this. Every person will have to decide for themselves if the Peace Dollar benefits the local community. I invite you to come to the meeting to learn more.

>part of the problem with the american empire is that it is so big and diverse >and because of that there is a large lack of unity and common interest.

Indeed, I agree there is a large lack of unity, and that is why we promote unity and networking.

>if you all were working toward a cascadian currency and working to build a >sustainable network in cascadia, that would be intersting.

There is curently a cascadia dollar program in effect. We do not desire to compete with current projects on any level, but to create multi-organizational unity.

>however, i dont think that you all are that interested in sustainability or >peace at all.

Your thoughts are interesting. On the site you will find a zine (newsletter). Please print it out and if you still feel the same way then all I can say is everyone is entitled to their own thoughts. I respect your thoughts as I respect diversity.

>i looked at your webiste and you have an event coming up in north portland. i >found it ironic that you are fighting for peace and alternatives yet you only >gave driving directions. cars (yes, even public buses, although they are >better)

Actually, we gave driving directions, and Trimet directions. You are right, bike directions should be there and they will be added shortly. Thank you.

>are a form of violence against the environment.

The severely disabled are welcome at all our events. And that is one of many reasons why we make certain that driving directions will be available.

>why not encourage folks to bike there? or, why not at least give biking >directions? that is like exluding a target audinece.

Again, you're right. Bike directions will be added.

>i also didnt find anywhere on the site information about this PEACE network. >some background information would be nice.

On the site you will find our publication. It tells all about us. I hope you can come to the meeting, or please consider joing our email list. Constructive criticism and a diversity of thoughts are always welcome.
