Dear honorable officials,

I am writing to ask you to support designation of the Badlands as Wilderness.

The Badlands is a spectacular area, and its proximity to Bend makes it an excellent candidate for special designation. Consensus is strong on this issue; everyone from conservation groups to ranchers agree that Badlands should be permanently protected as Wilderness for future generations. Volunteers have been working for over a decade to protect the Badlands as Wilderness and through the cooperative efforts of local stakeholders and support from over 100 local businesses, this area could be Oregon's next Wilderness.

As Bend's population continues to grow, the opportunity to enjoy the solitude of Central Oregon's High Desert becomes less every year. Wilderness will afford protection to the special qualities that make the Badlands unique, including the "old-growth" juniper trees that characterize this unique landscape. Additionally, it will give needed protection to wildlife, including winter range for mule deer and elk. In short, Bend needs special places like the Badlands as we continue to lose our open spaces and wildlands to the effects of increased population growth and development.

This is a win-win situation, and I sincerely hope you will give it your full support!

Sincerely,

Your signature will be added from the information you provide below.
