Tsunami victims to sue U.S. forecasters - negligence

Incompetence or willful disregard? You decide.
A group of Austrian and German victims of the massive tsunami that struck Asia on Dec. 26 last year are planning to file a lawsuit against Thai authorities, French hotel chain Accor and U.S.-run tsunami early warning system in the Pacific, demanding them to prove they reacted properly to the disaster, the groups' lawyers said on Tuesday.

The group will file their suit in a New York district court this week, the lawyers said in Vienna.

"We found that serious lapses were committed," said Herwig Hasslacher, one of the group's lawyers said.

However, the group is not demanding compensation, it seeks uncovering evidence that would prove negligence.
