Oly supporters for peace & sanity ...

Thank you for your energy, your creativity, your commitment to peace & sanity in the midst of this Orwellian craziness.
Here in Oly town Code Pink made a strong showing. Once in the morning from 7-9am then again downtown from 4pm on. Lots of people joined in, lots of supportive honks & waves from passerbys...the recommended beverage for survivng the current enthronement is Pepto Abysimal

Hooray for King 5 News! 21.Jan.2005 20:56

Rocky Jonhstone

I just wanted to add that King 5 TV in Seattle had great coverage of the J20 protests on the 11:00 o'clock news last evening. It looked to me like the police made sure that the protestors were allowed to march right through the middle of downtown during rush hour. I've seen no reports of police harrassmnet. One commuter stuck in the traffic jam, stated that while inconvenient, she was respectful of those wishing to exercise the right to free speech.

This is a major shift in the local news coverage from what we've observed since the run up to War. Might this signal a possible change of heart with the media. One can only hope.

i saw a guy get tackled and held down by a "pig" pile (pun intended) of about 5-8 cops as one cop a few feet away between the crowd and the attack threatened me and the others right there with his pepper spray as we yelled at them to "let him go" and "police state". after being held down for about 30 seconds they just let him go and acted like nothing happened. i have a lot of first hand experence with the spd, and when they do something like this, what they're doing is trying to (1) scare the more mainstream liberals into inaction so they don't actually do something if things heat up and (2) try to provoke the the more millitant activists into action against an unprovoked attack, thus giving them an excuse to play with their toys and scare mainstream society against the dangers of protests, which fosters more and more public support for "free-spech zones" and police repression in general. remember, there were many talking to the media about how ALL the kent state students should have been shot, and you see why the police try to provoke crowds so they can play the heroic defenders of the people from the "mindless hooligans" they want society to see activists as.
