Subject: Draft Resistance and Conscientious Objection (Please Forward
FYI-- Early Notice:
On February 4, Living Earth's First Friday Community Potluck and Discussion will address Conscientious Objection and Draft Resistance. Activists with Veterans for Peace and the War Resisters League will be on hand to share information, answer questions, and consider the hard issues presented by the prospect of a military draft. Information is on our website at www.livingearthgatherings.org.
Please spread the word to all young folks in your circle, from age 15-25 anyway, and also to those safely out of draft range. We all share an obligation to stand up for young people and make sure forced conscription doesn't make its way into our lives again.
First Friday Community Potluck and Discussion
Sponsored by Living Earth
Friends Meeting House, 4312 SE Stark
Dinner 6:30-7:30, Discussion 7:45-9:30 pm.
If you come for dinner, please bring something vegetarian to share. If you prefer to come just for the presentation later, the presentation and discussion will run from about 7:45-9:30 pm. There is no charge for First Fridays, but donations are much appreciated.
Current political and economic conditions are creating a powerful "poverty draft" -- young people can't find jobs, can't afford or get assistance for higher education, and are hustled, harassed, seduced, and drawn in by military recruiters. Whether actual conscription or desperation are pulling young people into the military, they need to know that there are alternatives, and that there is a strong community standing behind them and supporting them in a decision not to go into the military.

May all beings live and grow in wild, vibrant peace.
