IndyMedia's name is being used illegally.

Someone at IndyMedia should do something about this. The hate organization KOBE has registered the name "indy-media.org" to disinform about IndyMedia.
Here is the registration information:

Network Solutions, they're the ones who took over PGP software...

Too Funny! 17.Jan.2005 07:33

wow

So Indy is finally being copied.

Legally, I don't think there is much Indy (the first Indy) can do about the second Indy.

Look at these two sites as an example of why this Indymedia has no legal footing.

The real site:
 http://www.drudgereport.com/

The other site:
 http://www.drudge.com/

Drudge has spent years and thousands of dollars trying to get rid of the second site, and the courts have told him to suck on it.

I suggest that this Indy site ignore the other indy site. The more people you draw attention to it, the worst it will be. I'm sure this guy is counting on people on this site whooping and hollering about it, so he gets more hits.

the Administrative Contact : bullock, george is appearently false.

contacting Network Solutions to let them know that their services and corporate information is used by an impostor spreading libel should result in a positive outcome.

Network Solutions doesn't give a shit. 17.Jan.2005 08:29

it doesn't work that way

Network Solutions (formally internic) is the clearing house for all domains on the web.

Since 2002 or so they have just been the clearing house for registrations of domain names. Remember whitehouse.com (it was a porn site) and whitehouse.gov couldn't do shit about it. Now its a real estate site.

Network Solutions will place this complaint in the "who gives a shit" bin.

This new indy site is as guilty and as legally responsible for spreading libel as the old indy site.
If you hunt around on this new indy site, you will see it was created as a result of the now imfamous pat tilman article appeared on the portland indy site and Rush Limbaugh brought attention to it. It seems a group of jewish americans read it and other posts here and found this site to have an anti-semetic tone, and they created their indy-media site to counter it.

Unless Indy (this indy) has a few million laying around it wants to throw away to make a point, or it has members who comprise a bunch of bored attorneys with nothing better to do than file a suit, I suggest we ignore this new indy-site.

that "wow" and "it doesn't work that way" is the same person who doesn't have a clue.

the likeliness of the same person being linked to the fake indy-media.org webpage is quite high.

helper, I am the same person, so fucking what? 17.Jan.2005 09:48

duh!

Yes, I wrote both articles, so what?

I have no connection to this other indy site. I found out about today when I read the original post. However I think its funny.
helper, I think you should sue them, call your congressman, call Colin Powell, Call Kofi Annan, call the pope and see what fucking good it will do you.

I still suggest we just ignore it.

wtf

"indy-media.org" has about zero content, it's all just simulated input. if people don't try and spam it, i don't think that it will be a problem. people will realize that it's a fake. in "indy-media.org"'s feature section, pretty much all that they have is a link to "counter-inaugural.org" - an disinformation site that it looks like someone set up to run alongside ANSWER's counterinaugural.org.

beware the hyphens.

The word is "formerly." "Formally" means something else.
