We need your help to speak on behalf of chickens being tortured by KFC!

On Saturday, January 22nd at 12:00 noon, please join IDA and PETA volunteers to protest KFC at NE 7th and Weidler in Portland. Come out and show people that the secret in KFC's secret recipe is the torture of millions of chickens.

KFC is responsible for slitting conscious birds' throats open, and scalding them while they're still alive. They cut the beaks off of mother hens without pain killers and drug their chickens with antibiotics to keep them alive through conditions that would otherwise kill them. Please join our worldwide campaign against KFC by attending this protest.

Latest news about the KFC campaign:

The West Virginia Prosecuting Attorneys Institute (WVPAI) has decided not to press charges against the workers involved in the sadistic cruelty PETA documented in their undercover investigation into a KFC-supplier slaughterhouse in Moorefield, W.Va.

Additionally, McDonald's just announced that they are going to study the feasibility of adopting controlled-atmosphere-killing (CAK) in the United States. They already use this technology in places in Europe. With that said, KFC continues to fall well behind their competitors when it comes to animal welfare standards, so now is the time to increase the pressure!

controlled atmosphere killing?

Controlled atmosphere killing... 17.Jan.2005 00:18

info

a process by which chickens are killed by replacing oxygen in the air they breathe with an inert gas, such as nitrogen or argon.

It would replace a slaughtering process in which chickens are hung by their legs on a moving conveyor line and pulled through an electrified vat of water. The electrical charge is "supposed to" stun the chickens (it often enough does not), and then their throats are cut.

Of course the only humane thing to do is to stop contributing to the birth to death torture of these animals by refusing to eat them.

In the US, approximately 23 million chickens are slaughtered every 24 hours. That's 266 chickens per second, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Poultry are given no protection under the law.

Have a look at www.kfccruelty.com to see the video of abuse that went unpunished. Workers stomp on chickens, spit tobacco in their faces, twist off their beaks, squeeze their struggling bodies so hard that feces come out. If you think there such a thing as "humane" commercial meat...think again. When animals are used as a commodity, they invariably suffer.
