US Military Base in Indian Ocean Received Tsunami Warning

this is a copy from the Indybay site  http://www.indybay.org/news/2004/12/1712037.php

US Military Base in Indian Ocean Received Tsunami Warning
by Socialist Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 at 9:42 PM

The US military base in the Indian Ocean on the British-controlled island of Diego Garcia, received sufficient warning of the tsunami so that it suffered no damage, unlike the rest of the Indian Ocean.

The US military base in the Indian Ocean on the British-controlled island of Diego Garcia, received sufficient warning of the tsunami so that it suffered no damage, unlike the rest of the Indian Ocean.

Diego Garcia is the island, about 1,000 miles from India and directly in the path of the tsunami, from which the US conducts its bombing raids on Afghanistan and Iraq.

This important piece of information is from the 12/30/04 World Socialist Website, in an article by Patrick Martin, "Bush's response to South Asia disaster: indifference compounded by political incompetence"

This article further states:

"There is already evidence that the US government had ample warning of the earthquake-driven tsunami, but did not communicate the information to the countries involved. US press reports indicate that the Pacific Warning Center in Hawaii, a facility of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, detected the earthquake when it occurred and immediately warned of the likelihood of tidal waves generated by one of largest temblors ever recorded."

"Charles McCreery, director of the center, confirmed that his team had transmitted warnings to the US Navy, the US State Department and the government of Australia. The State Department claimed to have notified India, but the Indian government said it received no such warning in the two hours that elapsed between the quake off Sumatra and the tidal wave that hit the Indian coastline in the southern province of Tamil Nadu. Nor did the Sri Lankan government receive a warning."

Please read the rest of the article as it provides outstanding imagery on the nature of the administration we have. If anyone heard Bush's statement on the news, or at least excerpts of it, one would have thought we were listening to an 8 year old child talking rather than the statement of a middle-aged statesman of a large industrialized country. Patrick Martin correctly refers to Bush's statement as being semi-coherent, and he continues:

"Bush's press statement in Crawford did contain one indisputable truth. "This has been a terrible disaster," Bush said. "It is beyond our comprehension.""

"The speechwriter who crafted those words revealed more about Bush than he perhaps intended. This failure to grasp the dimensions of the south Asian disaster—and anticipate the public reaction to a display of indifference—is a measure of the moral and intellectual cretinism of Bush and his cohorts."

"If great events take the true measure of men, the enormous tragedy on the shores of the Indian Ocean has provided another yardstick of the vicious and small-minded man who occupies the White House. Bush personifies the ignorant and reactionary character of American imperialism."

According to The Weather Channel. 02.Jan.2005 00:20

I watched the weather channel today and they claimed that the Tsunami Warning center in Hawaii and Alaska alerted Indonesia, Thailand, India and other countries within 6 minutes of the Earthquake / SeaQuake, however those countries had no mechanism in place to propagate the information out to those who needed it.

Re: According to The Weather Channel. 02.Jan.2005 01:07

well.. I lived in Chennai (Madras) India (infact last year at this time) and they could have warned them in theory. The police heaquarters in Chennai is literally across the street from Marina Beach (the world's longest beach). It does not take a rocket scientist to get into a car with a megaphone and shout at people in Tamil, Hindi and English or any other lanuage of your choice. I have been at Marina beach and other beaches near by during holidays like new years last year and the police can be very mobile to those places if they hear of such an event. And it would be easy forthe Chennai police to call down the shoreline to Mahabalipuram that was wiped out. Turn this is only one place and not all the Indian Ocean. But if the information had reached Chennai we would have heard on Indian television that at least one place was warned. Of course most of the coastline is populated by rural fishing people and that would be a difficult task to tell them unless you used one of the Indian military helicopters to fly down the coast warning people. I will this week try to make contact with one of my aunts in Chennai to find out if the people near the beaches were warned.

Now the factor against a place like India is simply communication between departments and sometimes the operators get snotty, but under those circumstances I would think the police can make a direct call. There is also military bases along the coast there.

If the Amerikan government claims it was too early in the morning then I would also say "bullshit!" PM Singh is a morning person and at 6 in the morning has his daily walk. Infact most of India is awake by sunrise. (as a night person that drove me up the walls and still does).

How often do you think there goverments check there E-Mail 02.Jan.2005 05:52

no effert ,

There Hawwian Bases sunami center warned the surrounding Ilands in the Indian ocean , by E-mail, remeber its after noon there , peopl were consumed by there dayly lifes and lunchs not checking emails , It would have made better since to call Hotels and local police stations and warn them , and i would like to see the email sent i am sure ity was just a update of current activity, not a warning you might be lead to beleive..

Weather Channel is "misinformed" and is misinforming you! 02.Jan.2005 09:30

The Weather Channel lied.

NAZI BUSH REGIME's ENVIRO/HAARP-REICHSTAG FIRE: seize Aceh oil militarily as "rescue"
12:23 Dec-30 (11 comments)

Why has a senior commander involved in the invasion of Iraq been assigned to lead the US emergency relief program? "Lieutenant General Blackman was previously Chief of Staff...leading the Marines into Baghdad..."

US Foreknowledge and Selective Warnings. Similar to 9-11, the automatic warning system STANDS DOWN to allow a terrorist act occur, hypothetically using the HAARP technology, to justify upcoming militarization of the area with US troops in an area rich with oil. Whether HAARP or otherwise, the associated issue would be the standdown of the automatic earthquake warning system among its subscribing member nations. This is CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE--U.S. ONLY WARNS AUSTRALIA AND INDONESIA--LEFT OTHERS IN AN ENVIRONMENTAL REICHSTAG FIRE TO DIE FOR POLITIAL GAIN, and then invaded oil rich Aceh with over 2000 U.S. Marines and two aircraft carriers with armed helicopters.

No one tells the member countries about the "earthquake". However, the US DOES WARN its military base in the aera. And from this military base, part of the invasion of Aceh is proceeding with TWO AIRCRAFT CARRIERS and led by the U.S.'s pre-emptive invasion of Iraq leadership. "In a bitter irony, part of this operation is being coordinated out of America's Naval base in Diego Garcia. The US warns its naval base, though fails to warn Indian Ocean rim governments. "...the strike group, with its seven ships, 2,100 Marines and 1,400 sailors aboard, also has four Cobra helicopters..."

The oil rich Aceh area, which like Iraq, was suffering from a civil war making oil extraction difficult. You are an IDIOT! 02.Jan.2005 10:58

Mike stepbystepfarm <a> mtdata.com

"part of the invasion of Aceh is proceeding with TWO AIRCRAFT CARRIERS"

How, pray tell, would YOU propose to quickly move to the stricken area power plants capable of producing say 30 megawatts and distilled water plants capable of producing say 100,000 ga/day to replace on an emergency basis the facilities that were destroyed? Have you any conception of how much a power plant of that size weighs? How long it takes to construct? Or a water plant of that size? You have some of these available lying around somewhere ready to be transported to the disaster area? Even if you did, how long would it take you to transport them and reconstruct them there.

A large warship tied up at the dock represents those things as a self contained unit and can get there under its own steam in a couple days. The "damage control" engineers on board know how to quickly set the ship up as a "power source" just like they would if they had to supply power to a "cripple". And although it means afterwards they will need to clean the boiler tubes (the ship will need to spend some time back in the yard when this is over), for a while they can get a lot of purified water by drawing off from the condensors instead of recirculating the clean water.

That's not an "invasion", it's emergency help being moved into position as fast as is possible.

how can you invade without water? 02.Jan.2005 11:58

The water is for the American troops as well. How can they get the political stability they want any other way than by criminal military behavior? After a standdown of the warning system of earthquakes? They admit themselves that Sumatra/Aceh did not receive any warnings, until after the hits had been achieved!

Besides, NO ONE INVITED THE STUPID U.S. TO INVADE ACEH. They are just doing it. You would think with an international disaseer that it would be organized, instead the 'private' military of a country on the opposite side of the world "takes time out" (sic) from its pre-emptive invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq?! I got a big bridge to sell you, dude, if you are that gullible.

Typically would you expect that a country on the opposite side of the world to take time out from pre-emptively invading two other countries--in invasions that are doing poorly--and send out its troops?

No, wake up.

This is all part of the plan to surround and isolate India and other South East Asian areas, same as has been done with Iran (surrounded by US puppet state Afghanistan and US puppet state Iraq).

The U.S. is not a humanitarian country you know.

Anything it ever does under Bush is totally evil and malignant. He's stolen two presidential elections, and you think that he is sending humanitarian aid to an oil country once more? When he has invaded two other oil countries in the past several years withouy any cause.

HAARP deniers require lots of science updating.

HAARP, Nuclear War, & the Heart of Darkness 03.Jan.2005 21:28

Adriana sylviapower@qnet.com

Dear Strategist:
Thank you for your insight into the heart of darkness of Bush & Co. Yes, the
Reichstag fire, Pearl Harbor, 9-11, Four Hurricanes in Florida, and HAARP in the Indian Ocean. A media that disinforms and a people that are inappropriate-ly optimistic are partly to blame. However, the lessons of 9-11 should have been warning enough. Israel, Germany, France, Russia, even the Taliban warned the US about a huge terrorist act. Who made the lucrative put options on the airlines and insurance companies before 9-11? It looks like the CIA and other Wall Street people. Where are the investigations of this easily solvable crime? Why did the military not intercept and shoot down the other three hyjacked planes?

Tenet wanted to instigate covert actions against 80 countries. He was given the go ahead after 9-11 and given a huge increase in the CIA budget. Then we get two earthquakes in Iran (40,000 dead), an explosion in North Korea, radio-
active wars in Afghanistan & Iraq. This is a holocaust. And we said never again.
