City Club Reports on Health Care Safety Net

The Portland City Club issued the third and final report in its health care series. This report "Examining the Health Care Safety Net in the Portland Area" focuses on the health care services available to those who are uninsured, underinsured or on the Oregon Health Plan.
The report is intended to inform City Club members and the community about the role of the safety net in health care so they are better able to understand and evaluate changes in health care. The report finds that 210,000 people in the metro area are uninsured and many more are just a pay check away from losing their health care coverage. They note the term "safety net" is misleading because it "suggests a seamless web that catches and saves all who fall off the tightrope of mainstream health care"- which they found was not true.
