Repost from Jobs with Justice:
Jobs with Justice Action Alert!
Support Striking Parry Center Workers
Rally at the Picket Line
Monday, Nov. 29th
6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
at the Parry Center, 3415 SE Powell Blvd.

Dear Jobs with Justice Pledger,

Many of you know that the workers at the Parry Center for Children are
facing a very tough management that is trying to break the union. In
recent contract negotiations, management has insisted on a three year wage
freeze (after workers accepted a one year wage freeze for 2003.)
Management is also insisting on an open shop, which would allow people to
have all the benefits of the union without participating. Not only is this
"offer" a slap in the face to the workers whose wages never top $ 9.80 per
hour (after a required B.A degree,) but this offer shows tremendous
disregard for the young people with emotional disturbances who need a
stable workforce.

Last week, County Commissioners Diane Linn, Serena Cruz, and Maria Rojo de
Steffey wrote to SEIU Local 503 and to Parry Center management strongly
suggesting that the parties accept binding arbitration in order to prevent
a strike. While the workers agreed to this suggestion, Kim Scott and the
rest of the Parry Center's administration has not responded the
commissioners, and are pretending that they can go on with business as
usual.

Parry Center workers will walk out Monday, Nov. 29th at 6:00 am. Let's
join them in a huge rally Nov. 29th at 6:00 pm. Also, feel free to support
workers on the picket line any time between 6am and midnight.

For more information, see this article on the JwJ web page:

We will stand with the Parry Center workers as they stand for community
standards!!

A minor correction

There was enough room to hula hoop during the visit to speak with Kim Scott. We also played with balloons while waiting to talk with Kim Scott.

Middle level management declined to participate.

Hope to see people at the picket line tonight at 6 PM>
