Jimmy Carter is a Christian. So was Mother Theresa. Likewise the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Jesus himself was a big, peace-lovin' hippie. "Blessed are the Peacemakers," He said. And He reminded us, "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of Heaven."
How, then, did Pat Buchanan and that Bush Administration crowd get themselves a monopoly on Christian morality?
It is often remarked that Jesus must be ashamed to see the atrocities committed in His name. What we don't hear enough about is the shame that open-minded people of faith feel toward our hatemongering, right wing brothers & sisters. My friend Linda, a deeply faithful gospel singer, has a button that reads: "Lord, save me from your followers."
Every day, religious people around the globe, and even here in the USA, volunteer in food banks, soup kitchens, mentorship programs, peace organizations... you name it. Many are motivated by the loving example of Jesus Christ, and his disciples, and their timeless message of mercy & hope. (Sniff... beautiful stuff) Good people follow the example of the Good Samaritan, only to have their reputations trashed by ASSHOLES WITH NO MORAL COMPASSES, who claim to be on a mission from God.
Let us pray:
Lord, hear our prayer! Hear our prayer for Peace! May Peace prevail in the Holy City of Jerusalem!
Lord, hear our prayer for the Arctic Wildlife refuge! PLEASE, GOD, tell Pat Buchanan to tell GW to keep his oily mitts off it!
Bless Mommy & Momma, and Uncle John & Uncle Don, and, Lord, please hurry up & find a cure for AIDS...
And Lord, I know this is a lot to ask, but please let that evil John Ashcroft get what's coming to him
