FTW "Snap Out of It!

Mike Ruppert's recent piece echoes many of the same concerns and beliefs that those of us interested in the Cascadia movement support. I found the article of so compelling that I am considering joining FTW.
Take control of your money, get out of debt and stop feeding the coorporate machine seems to make sense to me. Can we actually bring the empire down without firing a shot? Mike argues that it can be done if properly planned and enough people get on board.

Thanks for the update 07.Nov.2004 21:41

Cascadia Fan

Thanks for the update, I missed the first post regarding Mike's article. I must admit (sadly) that I was in complete withdrawl after 11-2. I woke up on 11-3 to find a text message on my cell phone that stated,

"If you don't like the way the vote turned out, get the fuck out of our country!"

Nice people I work with aye?... I called in sick to work that day. No radio, no TV, nor internet until this weekend. I am only now beginning to come out of my cave. I am very happy to see that so many are ready to fight back this time. I'm in!

Mike's right for sure, no time to run. Fight this threat to OUR democracy with what few dollars we may have left to spend. Other posts here have implied that there are ways to either redirect our (war) tax dollars or reduce (war) taxes altogether. I am hopeful that more information on this topic appears here soon.

I like Ruppert. Don't get me wrong when I note the following. But there is one point he makes in that essay that is flimsy. He speaks about the significance of the Russian approval of Kyoto and suggest that Russia took the action to limit economic growth to limit American power. The fact is, the US will likely ignore Kyoto in any form, and any global reduction in growth that would pass through and reduce US growth is a non-causal byproduct, not directly related to Ruppert's assigning Russian intent to join Kyoto to limit US power. The facts are that Russia wanted to butter-up European nations for further trade relations and approving Kyoto was seen as a minor expenditure of political capital to achieve other goals. Russia will be able to shape Kyoto (as the BBC has noted), and *most importantly* Russian economic growth isn't likely going to be impacted by Kyoto in the near-term because the carbon limits that would apply to Russia are based on a 1990 baseline, and Russia's current economic activity can fit within the Kyoto bounds without too much pain.

Economic warfare, to use Ruppert's term, is indeed the most expeditious way to have an impact on the empire. Again, don't get me wrong. But he's off the mark on the quip about Russia (see below):

==============

Today, as I finished this essay, Putin has ratified the accord after overwhelming passage by the Russian legislature. The BBC writes:
------
Putin clears way for Kyoto treaty

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed the Kyoto protocol on climate change - clearing the way for the treaty to come into force next year.

This is Russia's final and crucial stamp of approval for Kyoto. The pact needed support from countries responsible for 55% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, which most scientists blame for global warming.

After the United States refused to ratify it, only Russia could enable this threshold to be passed.
-------
The significance is clear. Limit greenhouse gas emissions and you limit economic growth. Limit economic growth and you undermine America's financial and economic vampire. The world is fighting back. We can too and in this way we can force a change.
