Shut Down Of The PJTTF May Be Possible This Year!

Tired of pigz and feds abusing their collective powers to squash your voice? Tired of Meyers following you with a tape recorder at protests(what is he whispering in to those things anyway?...hmm)? Well, we actually have a chance at making these activites more challenging for them! In the past, the city council members have been very supportive of the Portland Joint Terrorism Task Force. This time three of them are having their doubts.
Tired of pigz and feds abusing their collective powers to squash your voice? Tired of your friends' social weaknesses being used as a tool to undermine your work? Tired of Meyers following you with a tape recorder at protests(what is he whispering in to those things anyway?...hmm)? Well, we actually have a chance at making these activites more challenging for them! In the past, the city council members have been very supportive of the Portland Joint Terrorism Task Force. All reformist tactics were destined to be in vain. This time three of them are having their doubts. Especially after all of the negative media attention surrounding the Brandon Mayfield case. Dan Saltzman, Erik Sten, and Randy Leonard have all issued statements expressing their concerns. Although they have also said that they will vote against it UNLESS they are promised security clearance to view the past activities of the PJTTF (note: over 2 months after the vote is scheduled to take place). If I am not mistaken, if these men vote against the renewal of the PJTTF then that is it. No more PJTTF. I don't know about you but that sounds great to me!

So what should we do about this? As a community we need raise our voices together again(despite all our stark differences as of late, which the feds I'm sure have thoroughly enjoyed exploiting). We need to write letters or postcards(they are cheaper & more eye catching), everyone must testify, and we need all the people we can possibly fit into the chambers. This year is a scenario in which reform tactics just might actually work.

There is the issue of what day and time. There are mixed days and times coming from all sorts of unconfirmed sources. I have heard the ACLU say that there's a public hearing scheduled for the 22nd (of this month!) and Phil Busse said the 21st. However the city website lists no public hearing, only the vote scheduled for Wednesday November 3rd at 2pm.  http://www.portlandonline.com/auditor/index.cfm?c=26998 (the City Council agenda) If Nov 3rd is the date, then we really have our work cut out for us because most people will be at work.

So let's bust some ass and contact everyone we know(or don't know). Let's pack the chambers so tight with people that the balcony collapses!

Just change the name and.... 12.Oct.2004 15:10

Buck Fush

continue doing what they are doing. It would be like the school of americas closing down and changing the name to, well, whatever the change it to.And still doing the corrupt fucked up shit that they are doing. The Joint task could change there name to something like The Portland Security Force or something along those lines.
