Do anti-Nader Progressives know who writing their scripted letters?

Has anyone researched United Progtressives for Victory and their pitchman, Robert Brandon? Or will Progressives sign anything?
Oregon Progressives apparently will sign anything Robert Brandon puts in front of them.
Orrin Hatch or John Kerry- who is Robert Brandon for- if anyone?

The 527 Ballot Project and PAC, United Progressives for Victory, the anti-Nader groups charged with denying Nader ballot access and feeding Americans the lie that the Nader campaign is a Republican tool operate out of 1730 Rhode Island Ave. NW, Suite 712, Washington, D.C. 20036

In fact, this is the office of Robert Brandon and Associates. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Brandon has contributed more to anti-choice Senator Orrin Hatch than to John Kerry. Last week Hatch said terrorists "are going to throw everything they can between now and the election to try and elect Kerry." On Fox News, Hatch said Democrats are "consistently saying things that I think undermine our young men and women who are serving over there."(Dana Milbank, "Tying Kerry to Terror Tests Rhetorical Limits,". Washington Post, Sept.27,2004, p1). Brandon is simply an unprincipled mouthpiece who sings whatever song is placed in his mouth with a check attached. Here's our proof (from Center for Responsive Politics)

IMPEACH BUSH NOW!

From what I can tell by googling, Robert M. Brandon and his firm have been consistent, though not uncompromising, in fighting for corporate accountability to citizens, particularly in the health care arena, but in other areas as well. His donations to Orrin Hatch are apparently not uncommon among trial lawyers who sue corporations on behalf of citizens.

Orrin Hatch was a trial lawyer himself before he became a Senator, so he is kind of a fence-sitter, and an extremely influential one as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, on tort deform. He tries to appease both his Republican leadership and corporate constituents, as well as the Amerian Trial Lawyers Association, many of whose members have contributed to his campaigns when he has chosen to side with them and against the corporations they are suing in specific cases. For example, Hatch helped the "progressive" side on anti-tobacco cases. He is trying to craft compromise legislation between big law and big business on tort deform. Of course, he wouldn't agree he tries to appease anyone, but would say he charts his own reasonable and correct course while the lobbyists on both sides are partisan. In the end, he is really a fake middleman who pretends to cut a compromise when in fact he is giving the corporations exactly what they want while acting like he is tempering it to the liking of the trial lawyers and citizen advocates. Corporations bargain intelligently, by starting with way more than they want so the compromise IS what they want. Democrats bargain stupidly, starting out by asking for the worst compromise they can barely stomach, then trading off more concessions from there.

I see no smoking gun here showing Brandon to be another Toby Moffet in terms of sheer hypocrisy (Moffet worked for the Nader organization Citizen Action before becoming a U.S. Congressman, then a VP for the Frankenfood pushing Monsanto corporation), but Brandon has been a consultant to the Democratic National Committee, and that is the smoking gun showing Brandon's anti-Nader actions to be rooted in the same profoundly misguided loyalty to the Democratic Party that led Bill Bradbury to tamper with the very elections he was sworn into office to protect the integrity of, and by some triply twisted logic to do so in the supposed name of protecting that integrity.

Brandon has also been a White House advisor on Clinton's failed health care strategy, which Nader has rightly criticized as being a completely unworkable attempt to achieve universal health coverage while appeasing and further subsidizing the wasteful, taxpayer-robbing and consumer-oppressing insurance, pharmaceutical, and HMO industries.

"Mr. Brandon has been a Democratic National Committee consultant and advisor to the White House on health care strategy."

Moffet and Brandon are both key operatives for the anti-Nader smear group "United Progressives for Victory". United Progressives for Democracy is Kerry and the Democratic Party's answer to Bush and the Republican Party's Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. If the big issue in this election is now whether Bush or Kerry is better suited to finish the corporate and military annexation of Iraq for the American Corporate-Veiled Aristocracy, then swing voters should take note that Bush's covert front group hit a bullseye on Kerry, but Kerry's covert front group has done nothing but take wild potshots at Nader. That's no way for Kerry to convince corporate America he's a better man than Bush to lead either their oil wars or their propaganda wars.

There is no question that a great many genuinely devoted grassroots citizens activists are passively or actively involved in the libelous and perhaps criminal anti-Nader smear, intimidation and obstruction campaign going on throughout the country. That is what is most sad of all, that so many people with their hearts, hands and feet in the right place have managed to let their heads, eyes and spleens get bamboozled into attacking the Nader campaign. All turned around and disoriented by the Bush/Kerry ice follies, they mistake the Nader campaign's momentum for inertia, and they can't understand why we won't budge an inch, because they do not realize they are the ones stuck in the ice and we are the ones on the move against the enemies of the People. They say, "come with us, replace Bush with Kerry, then fight Kerry tooth and nail." Well, why not fight Bush and Kerry tooth and nail right now like the Nader campaign is, instead of turning your back unwisely and unwarrantedly to Kerry until he gets his hands on the sword of the Presidency to stab you in the back with?

Ding ding ding ding ding !!!

WE HAVE A WINNER, FRIENDS !! :)

I keep hearing the saw that the Democratic Leadership Squad will "punish us by ignoring us" or "won't work with us" or somesuch if every last one of us fails to dutifully submit to Kerry right this instant. The people who say this don't ever seem to explain just why I should consider Kerry's current treatment of my issues anything OTHER than "punishment" or "failure to work with." You only have to look at what happened to The Rainbow Coalition to see the long-term folly and failure of trying to reform the party from within. It just ain't gonna' happen. Grassroots action is more than uninteresting to the people running the Party: it's directly opposed to their stated goals of appeasing and advancing their corporate backers and the cause of world imperialism. They will only tolerate grassroots action long enough to neutralize it and buy off its ambassadors. That's some working relationship there. [snort.]

I also keep hearing from people that I shouldn't vote Nader because he's an asshole. [shrug.] Hey, I'm sorry if the only prominent Lefty in this country whose saying what needs to be said is an asshole. That's as much a failure of all the "nice," cooperative, team-player Lefties --who don't think Nader's approach is constructive but won't step out in the spotlight themselves and face down their supposed "friends" because they have such a personal stake in being liked-- as it is the fault of Nader. What's the point of being liked if you can't get a damn thing that you want ? We all saw how well the "nice" approach worked for Kucinich. If the choice between Nader and Kerry is the choice between an asshole and a stooge, I'll take the asshole over the stooge any day. :(

Well said, but I don't know why anyone would say that Nader is an asshole. I've never seen any signs of that. He devotes his entire life to trying to make this country better and he's an asshole? As compared to whom, Christ? What he is is extremely stubborn, courageous and willing to oppose power. More than I can say for any Democrat.

"Maverick" Vs. "Asshole" 14.Oct.2004 06:47

"...What he is is extremely stubborn, courageous and willing to oppose power. More than I can say for any Democrat..."

Well, you see it's like this, Bender:

Republican/Right-Winger with a big mouth (ie-- John McCain) = "Maverick," "Straight-Shooter," "Independent," "Strong Man," etc...

Left-Winger with a big mouth (ie-- Ralph Nader) = "Asshole," "Stubborn Mule," "Fool," "Intransigent," "Madman," etc...

What else can explain why so many Liberal-Lefties I run across who can't say enough great things about McCain (even though much of his "Maverick" reputation is only a bunch of hype) also can't say enough shitty things about Nader ? Hell, I run across people who are still angry, five years after the fact, about Nader's boorish crack about "gonadal politics." Never mind that he apologized and clarified his slip. Nope, that's not good enough. But that McCain, what a standup guy. Whadaya' mean he once referred to Asians as "g**ks" ? We haven't heard anything about that. He's a great guy !! Shut up !!

Medea Benjamin is on Common Dreams today calling for everyone who voted for Nader to repent and apologize for our terrible wrongdoing. Otherwise, we're just like Bush, unwilling to ever admit we made these terrible, horrible mistakes. (Yawn.) How come she's not calling on Gore or any other Democrat to apologize for their mistakes ? Never mind. Stupid question. I'm off to drink my morning gallon drum of coffee now...
