Last week I received a Portland General Electric pamphlet mailed from 2213
SW 153rd Dr., Beaverton, Oregon, urging voters against the Washington
County PUD measures 34-95 and 34-96. Bottom line of the two-fold
11X17 pamphlet with pictures of PGE employees reads, "The cost to
produce and mail this pamphlet is paid by PGE shareholders and is not
included in your rates."
I called PGE public relations department, "Why have you used our
addresses, a private information, to favor shareholders only without
quoting any statements by persons in favor of these measures?'' I was
told, " We have obtained mailing information from Oregon Elections
office." The use of the voters list is limited to the candidates or
political organizations only.
Upon my inquiry with the state elections office I found that PGE
Shareholders are not registered with the state elections division as a
political organization to account for the income and expenses of the
political activities. I found PGE shareholders are neither candidates
nor a political organization.
Like Martha Stewart, the PGE shareholders and PGE employees quoted in
the pamphlet should be tried and sent to the prison for: 1) stealing
state government property and using it for private or personal
purpose, 2) mail and wire fraud, and 3) performing a political
activity without a registration as a political organization with the
