Hoeffel Says His Iraq Vote Was A Mistake

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Congressman Joseph Hoeffel said during a campaign stop in Philadelphia that his vote to authorize the war in Iraq was a mistake.
The Democratic candidate for Senate says he only voted for the war because he was convinced that Saddam Hussein needed to be disarmed of weapons of mass destruction.
But those types of weapons have yet to be found in Iraq, and now Hoeffel says he believes the Bush administration lied to Congress about Saddam's weapons capabilities.
The statement puts Hoeffel at odds with incumbent Republican Arlen Specter, who has stood by his vote for the war.
Specter says that given the information it had at the time, the Senate did the right thing.
