Herbert Lumber 23.Aug.2004 10:22

local forest person

Herbert Lumber is as much as a threat to our forests as Roseburg Forest Products and just as tightly connected to Umpqua Bank. Herbert Lumber bought the contract on the controversial Bear II timber sale just this June. Bear II will clear-cut old growth in spotted owl habitat in Mt. Hood National Forest just north of Breitenbush Hotsprings. The Herbert Family was among the founders of Umpqua Bank in 1953. Lynn Herbert, the general manager/owner of Herbert Lumber sits on the board of directors. Lynn and Milton Herbert (the owners) have 1.5 million shares of stock in Umpqua Bank, or 20% of the stock! Herbert Lumber is destroyign Mt. Hood and profiting off of Umpqua Bank. The Bear Timber Sale could be logged any day now. By choosing to purchase the Bear Timber Sale Lynn Herbert has shown herself to be an irresponsible member of the Cascadian community. If Umpqua Bank has any sense of community responsibility they will remove her from the board.

THANKS FOR THE PHOTOS!

Food Front needs to know 23.Aug.2004 10:44

hoot owl

I heard that Food Front Food Co-operative in northwest portland has an account with the northwest branch of Umpqua bank.

Maybe they should be told what is going on with Umpqua and asked to do their business with the Albina community bank that also has a northwest branch.

Maybe the owl in the pics should show up at Food Front.

Allyn Ford and Columbia helicopters 11.Mar.2005 16:56

Doesn't Allyn Ford also own Columbia Helicopters

stupid helicopters! 11.Mar.2005 17:04

Rosefairey

Along with Alan Ford being a timbr baron, and the chain o' banks, and the annoying helicopters, he can't seem to get along with any of the real loggers and country folk around here. He 's been known to buy out smaller, more sustainable loggers and I hear he's never logged in his life. Also heard thet he ain't got much knowledge of economics either. He also offers a scholarship to single mothers.
