As anticipated the parks and recreation sent a pair of errand boys, actually an errand boy and an errand girl, who arrived to deliver the message of the grocery clerks around 6:00 p.m. The message: to immediately cease and desist from playing bike polo and the subtle expectation that the athletes should leave the Alberta park immediately under the glaring authority of the Park Rangers. Recognizing no particular infraction of either city code nor the long standing agreement with the Portland city parks and recreation the polo enthusiasts remained until they resolved an alternative plan; to play in the street at an alternative location.
Immediately following this confrontation and delivery of their message the parks and recreation errand peoples retired to a bench to enjoy their box lunch procured from Poppeye's Chicken house, spot birds and, generally, to enjoy the park while keeping a watchful eye toward the renegade bicycle athletes, radios at the ready to call for back-up should another polo match break out.
Somewhat unexpected was the early arrival, about 3:00, of Portland Mercury photographer to capture images of the Polo Athletes demonstrating their skill, technique and strategy in this daredevil renegade sport. The story is due for publication in the Portland Mercury on Thursday, August 5, 2004.

by employing open publishing, pdx indymedia has thousands more reporters and editors than any corporate news outlet could ever hire. the big boys come here for scoops more and more often. and the stories here on the same topics are frequently more in-depth because lots of people will chime in.
'dat said, people could still publish more of what they see and hear about around the area. this resource could be even richer and more informative. it's not difficult -- as readers have probably noticed, you don't need to know how to "spell correctly" or use "proper grammar" to have a story highlighted in the center column. anyone can do it. so do it!
