Bait-Switch Whitewash Bullshit, this report 22.Jul.2004 12:45

No-Doz Bukowski

This report from the 9/11 Commission - what a surprise!

They've decided that what we need is to unite foreign and domestic intelligence agencies with local police and the military, under a single authority! And that authority should be a member of the cabinet, appointed and supervised by the President!

They've decided that what we should have done is declared war on Afghanistan SOONER, before the 9/11 attack.

They've decided that we should have waged pre-emptive wars against OTHER countries in the Middle East - why didn't we bomb Iran? Why didn't we bomb Syria?

The FBI should have been given more resources, and more power! The CIA should have more spies, more surveillance capabilities!

And, now that we understand these things, "Every expert with whom we spoke told us an attack of even greater magnitude is now possible and even probable. We do not have the luxury of time... We must prepare and we must act. The al Qaeda network and its affiliates are sophisticated, patient, disciplined and lethal." (Thomas Kean, quoted at CNN.com)

So, basically, what we should have done is just exactly what Bush has done - form the Department of Homeland Security, restructure the Intelligence system so that this new department is on top, appoint his old college buddy to run it, give sweeping new unconstitutional powers to intelligence and law enforcement authorities under Homeland Security, and engage in further pre-emptive wars against nations with tenuous connections to the phantom "Al Qaeda".

It. Is. All. Bullshit. It's part of the program, my friends - to make us feel vindicated, and present the impression that the Bush administration has finally been called to task for its many crimes and failures. But the conclusions drawn, after years of investigation, play directly into the party line and ignore reams of information that we all know to be widely available.

And they're going to sell the whole propagandistic whitewash at Barnes and Noble for $10 a pop. What a pointless charade.

5000. - N.
