The Air Car enters the home straight
The recent presentation of the Air Car at the European Fuel Cell Forum in Switzerland and the sale of a number of licences in Spain and Italy allow a glimpse of an imminent entry to market for the eagerly awaited ecological vehicle.  http://www.motordeaire.com/Img/estacion_aire.jpg
MDI, the company which invented the Air Car, on the 30th June presented its CityCats vehicle at the European Fuel Cell Forum in Lucerne, Switzerland. This forum, dedicated to an other transport alternative (hydrogen), gave MDI the recognition of the automotive industry, presenting the invention as "Compressed Air: The Most Sustainable Energy Carrier for Commuting Vehicles". The vehicle drove around the roads in Lucerne, driven by Dr Rudolf Rechsteiner, member of Swiss Parliament, who demonstrated his keen interest in a technology that could cause a paradigm shift in automobiles.
The meeting was of primary importance if we take into account the range of vehicles on offer today. The transport sector has reached a crucial stage. The Bush administration has cancelled proposals to investigate regular engines and meanwhile the manufacturers of electric cars have thrown in the towel due to the high production costs and the difficulty in maintenance associated with low mileage. In terms of a hydrogen car proposal, reliable sources do not expect one to reach market before 10 or 15 years, leaving the public with no real alternative. In this context, the MDI technology is the only viable proposal in the short and medium term and that is why the Fuel Cell Forum organisers presented MDI as the best existing solution for transport.
But the MDI compressed air engine is not only applicable to the automotive sector. Its technology is opening a new path of choice in other areas, such as buses, electric co-generation, compressor groups and marine applications. On 1st July in Madrid, Spain, the signing took place for the sale of licences for co-generation and buses in Spain. The investing company has signed an agreement worth 24 million Euros which will focus on a first phase of production of co-generation groups. Spain and Italy are the first countries to sign the agreement for the manufacture of electricity production groups. These systems allow a big saving while offering a solution to a recurring problem: how to produce energy locally according to the production and necessities of consumption. The MDI groups can also be installed in racks, offering an expandable solution which can be applied to a group of houses as well as to an isolated home or without connection to the network. The MDI proximity groups are the solution for providing electricity in developing countries where electricity cables and pylons cannot be installed due to the high cost involved. All these proposals are in pre-commercialisation phase, bringing to an end a long investigation which has resulted in a clean, ecological solution applicable from transport to energy production. MDI is now offering manufacturing licences for each of these products for the different countries of the world.

La empresa MDI, inventora del motor de aire comprimido, present? el pasado 30 de Junio su veh?culo CityCats en Lucerna (Suiza) con la ocasi?n del Foro Mundial de la Pila de Combustible. Este foro, dedicado a otra alternativa de transporte (El hidr?geno), acaba de dar a MDI el reconocimiento del sector autom?vil, presentando el invento como "La mejor soluci?n para transporte urbano sostenible". El veh?culo circul? en las calles de Lucerna, conducido por el Dr. Rudolf Rechsteiner, miembro del Parlamento Suizo, que demostr? el m?ximo inter?s por una tecnolog?a que puede cambiar el actual paradigma automovil?stico.
La cita fue de primera importancia si tomamos en cuenta el panorama de la oferta del transporte actual. El sector del transporte est? efectivamente en un momento ?lgido. El gobierno Bush ha cancelado definitivamente los presupuestos para la investigaci?n sobre motores convencionales y por otra parte, los fabricantes de coches el?ctricos han tirado la toalla debido a los altos costes de producci?n y a la dificultad de mantenimiento asociada a una falta de autonom?a. En cuanto a la propuesta del veh?culo de hidr?geno, fuentes fehacientes no anuncian la puesta en el mercado antes de unos 10 o 15 a?os, dejando el p?blico sin una alternativa real. En este contexto, la tecnolog?a MDI resulta ser la ?nica propuesta viable a corto y medio plazo, y ?sta es la raz?n por la que los responsables de la pila de hidr?geno presentaran a MDI como la mejor soluci?n actual para transporte.
Pero el motor de aire comprimido MDI no solo es utilizable en el mundo del autom?vil. Su tecnolog?a se est? abriendo un camino de elecci?n en otras ?reas, como son los autobuses, la cogeneraci?n el?ctrica, los grupos compresores y las aplicaciones marinas. Fue precisamente el pasado 1 de Julio cuando se firm? en Madrid la venta de la licencia para Espa?a de cogeneraci?n y autobuses. La empresa inversora ha firmado un convenio por un total de 24 millones de Euros y se enfocar? en una primera fase a la producci?n de grupos de cogeneraci?n. MDI est? tambi?n en conversaciones con un empresario espa?ol en aras de llegar al mismo acuerdo para Portugal. http://www.motordeaire.com/Img/Molino_MDI.jpg
Espa?a, junto con Italia, es el primer pa?s en firmar este convenio para la fabricaci?n de grupos de producci?n el?ctrica. Estos sistemas permiten un gran ahorro a la vez que dan una soluci?n a una dificultad recurrente: almacenar energ?a localmente seg?n la producci?n y las necesidades de consumo. Los grupos MDI tambi?n se pueden instalar en racks, proponiendo una soluci?n escalable que se puede aplicar, tanto a un grupo de casas como a una sola vivienda aislada o sin conexi?n a la red. Los grupos de proximidad de MDI son la soluci?n para la electrificaci?n de pa?ses en v?a de desarrollo donde la construcci?n de tendidos el?ctricos y centrales no se puede plantear por el alto costo que supone. Todos estos adelantos propuestos est?n en la fase previa a su comercializaci?n, terminando de esta manera una larga investigaci?n que ha desembocado en una soluci?n limpia y ecol?gica aplicable desde el transporte hasta la producci?n de energ?a. MDI ofrece en estos momentos licencias de fabricaci?n de cada uno de estos productos para los distintos pa?ses del mundo.
