First Response Security Guards armed, 24 hours a day
In case anyone hasn't noticed yet: security guards for Starbucks are now armed. I didn't notice the first day, but I spoke at length yesterday and quickly again today to an armed guard.

Another friend got a closer look at the gun , and claims it is one that can shoot 13 rounds in 4 seconds.

This is ridiculous. Broken windows are one thing, and this week wasn't the first week they've been broken (but Starbucks has taken the longest time this time in getting them repaired. Sympathy boards instead of windows...?)--but having an armed guard is overkill.

This info was gladly given to me by a Starbucks employee when I went in to express my concerns. The employees didn't seem to feel any better watching armed security patrolling the parking lot/sidewalk.

Yesterday the guard told that they'd be armed only at night. Today he was there again, armed. I asked him about what he'd just told me yesterday, that there would only be armed guards at night. His response, "Oh we'll always be here"

Frankly, this scares me much, much more than any vandalism has.

What difference does it make to you if the security guards carry guns? Overkill? How? Why *shouldn't* a security guard carry a gun?
