This is the first 'Engineering consent' column by Antony Loewenstein, to focus on the inside workings of big media.

"One of the most entrenched and disturbing features of American journalism [is] its pack mentality. Editors and journalists don't like to diverge too sharply from what everyone else is writing." Michael Massing, The New York Review of Books, February 26, 2004

"In April 2003, CNN aired footage of a marine in Baghdad who is confronted with a crowd of angry Iraqis. He shouts back in frustration, "We're here for your fucking freedom!" George Packer, The New Yorker, November 24, 2003

Accumulate to bring the bastards to trial! 25.Mar.2004 07:41

The media is very much responsible for the thousands of deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq (at least) and in so many of the other criminal acts perpetrated by the administration from hell. If we are going to impeach bush and his spawn then why can we not put the evil corporate media behind bars for decades for at least illegal cover ups if not immoral use of the constitution to protect themselves by lying constantly to manipulate the population? Lets begin to accumulate evidence on these bastards. Freedom of the press and of expression but what these devils in the corporate media have done actually helps to slay those freedoms. Let' get them!!!!!!!!!!
