And now, unintentionally or not, the Noon, Saturday, March 20 antiwar rally & march at the North Park Blocks has been disappeared from the "March 20, 2004" header. At least the poster is still there, but for how long?
This is the antiwar rally and march announced long before the other two events. But no matter.
For anyone with a real taste for anti-establishment and unpermitted antiwar rallies and marching, come as always to the North Park Blocks (Burnside & Park).
Yes, it might get interesting at Park and Burnside. No way do we go into a "Free Speech" holding area. No way do we get herded onto the sidewalks.
At least we won't be using the larger Pioneer Square event and march as a camoflauge screen. What an "effective" and gutless tactic.
The real Portland antiwar radicals have always rallied and marched from North Park Blocks. There is no reason to change now. If you're afraid of possibly getting picked off by the cops, by all means go to the larger Pioneer Square rally. If you realize the stakes, and understand what it means to act on your words, come on back to the North Park Blocks.
Just remember, it was the North Park Blocks that held the only Portland antiwar rally and march on February 15, 2003 when Stumptown otherwise ignored the International Day of Peace.
And North Park Blocks has held radical events on Oct. 5 & Nov. 17, 2002, plus Jan. 18, Feb. 15, and March 15, 2003. And more. It's a proud, defiant history we can all help to continue.
Now is really the time to put up or shut up, PDX radicals. So stand up at the North Park Blocks and stand up for your rights against the US war criminals and bloody butchers.
Or take a walk . . . . behind a squad car.
Portland, in solidarity with antiwar activists worldwide -- Spain's just knocked out the ruling Shrub allied Conservatives -- will demonstrate its continued resistance to the American invasion and occupation of Iraq with a rally set for Noon, Saturday, March 2004 at the downtown North Park Blocks (Park & Burnside streets).
This date marks the One-Year Anniversary of the Bush Administration's Unilateral Attack on the Iraqi Nation and People. Since that time, an estimated 16,000 Iraqis have been killed, and at least 550 American servicemen and women have died as the result of their government's illegal actions.
IT'S TIME TO GET BACK IN THE STREETS ON SATURDAY, MARCH 20, 2004
AND SHOW THE CITY, THE NATION AND THE WORLD THAT PORTLAND
WILL NEVER ACCEPT THIS BARBARIC AND MURDEROUS INVASION
INTENDED ONLY FOR THE ENRICHMENT OF OUR CORPORATIONS AND THE
POLITICAL GAINS OF OUR ILLEGITIMATE GOVERNMENT.
In the event the police attempt to create a cordoned off "Free Speech Zone" at the site, DO NOT ENTER! The North Park Blocks is a large enough area that we will be able to move away from Burnside toward the other end of the grassy area. They can't enclose the entire North Park Blocks.
After a rally to denounce the administration's war crimes, anyone willing and able should be ready to hit the streets for a demonstration march through downtown. The environment at the rally & march will be completely peaceful and non-violent, because that's what we're about! Any tension will only come about as a result of the presence and actions of police and other law enforcement officials. Remember to be flexible and ready to move as the situation warrants.
ALL THE PROTESTS AND DEMONSTRATIONS PRIOR TO THE 2003 INVASION
WERE SO NECESSARY AND IMPORTANT. BUT NOW IT'S EVEN MORE
CRITICAL THAT WE PUBLICLY DISPLAY THE CONTINUING OPPOSITION
OF AMERICANS TO THIS BLOOD-DRENCHED MADNESS, THIS CRIME
AGAINST HUMANITY COMMITTED DAILY IN OUR NAMES.
Now it's time to show how much we oppose the killing, how much we oppose the lies, how much we oppose the government cabal, and how much we oppose a future dominated by violence and bloodshed created and perpetrated by our nation.
SEE YOU AT NOON, SATURDAY, MARCH 20 IN THE NORTH PARK BLOCKS !!
