Far-right columnist compares same-sex marriage advocates to Islamic terrorists

Jesus H. Christ. We're all terrorists I guess--and even writing that statement makes me paranoid anymore. What the fuck kind of country do we live in when volunteering for animal and environmental groups puts you on the FBI's watch list, and the NEA is called a terrorist organization? I'm sick of this crap.
In his March 2 column on the far-right religious Web site WorldNetDaily, Dennis Prager compared same-sex marriage advocates to Islamic terrorists. Prager, a popular syndicated radio talk-show host on the Salem Radio Network, who often appears on shows like Larry King Live, Politically Incorrect, and various Fox News programs, titled his article "San Francisco and the Islamists: Fighting the Same Enemy."

"America is engaged in two wars for the survival of its civilization," he wrote. "The war over same-sex marriage and the war against Islamic totalitarianism are actually two fronts in the same war--a war for the preservation of the unique American creation known as Judeo-Christian civilization. One enemy is religious extremism. The other is secular extremism. One enemy is led from abroad. The other is directed from home. The first war is against the Islamic attempt to crush whoever stands in the way of the spread of violent Islamic theocracies, such as al-Qaida, the Taliban, the Iranian mullahs, and Hamas. The other war is against the secular nihilism that manifests itself in much of Western Europe, in parts of America, such as San Francisco, and in many of our universities....

"Most of the activists in the movement to redefine marriage wish to overthrow the predominance of Judeo-Christian values in American life," he continued. "Those who oppose same-sex marriage understand that redefining the central human institution marks the beginning of the end of Judeo-Christian civilization. Let us understand this redefinition as clearly as possible: With same-sex marriage, our society declares by law that mothers are unnecessary, since two men are equally ideal as mothers and as the creators of a family; and that fathers are unnecessary, since two women are equally ideal as parents and as the creators of a family....

"There have been many Christian countries, and they are no longer," he concluded. "They have been replaced by secular countries, and they are weakening. Only American civilization remains strong, and it does so because of its unique amalgam of values rooted in Judeo-Christian morality. This civilization is now fighting for its life as much here as abroad. Join the fight, or it will be gone as fast as you can say 'Democrat.'"

Islamists? 04.Mar.2004 09:14

Mister memorex

Only the far-right would make up some word like that. I guess if you want to marginialize any group, just put an -ist at the end. Hmmmm....Christists?

this sounds like something that that 04.Mar.2004 09:25

hatemongering

Lars Larson would tell with his Amen Choir of Karen Minnis, Kevin Mannix, et al screaming away
with their silliness. Add in the nutcase protester that's been featured in all the local news-
casts, and you've got a picture of the "type" of people opposed to this...then, IGNORE their
damned silly asses!

Secular Extremism? 04.Mar.2004 10:47

MEEP

Now that's rich. What are we supposed to do- hover inbetween the two extremisms and stay exactly where this guy wants us to? Ridiculous. There are a lot of people in this world who feel the need to impose their ideas of balance on us. Too bad they're out of whack. And what the fuck is secular extremism? Atheism? What? I can't picture it.

Why Americans make bad pets

"Dennis Prager compared same-sex marriage advocates to Islamic terrorists" Thanks Dennis now I don't feel so much alone knowing that one in six people are on my side, and that the rest of the world hates you. Who knew that america would collapse so soon after the Soviets?

More dumb assholes weigh in... 04.Mar.2004 14:00

I enjoyed a laugh at a quote by Cliff Zauner, Oregon legislative rep. (R) from the Woodburn area. He asked how the human race will continue to reproduce if gay marriage is legal. As if we have such a massive underpopulation problem as it is. These bastards will use any excuse they can find or make up to denounce gay marriage just because they feel it threatens them somehow.

Wait a minute 04.Mar.2004 15:42

this Cliff Zauner?

Cliff Zauner, Oregon legislative rep. (R) from the Woodburn didn't he have a thing with Lars Larson? Like they had a big fight because Lars did him and He wouldn't return the favor?

This kind of thinking is the result of too much red meat 04.Mar.2004 19:18

A. Hitler

"With same-sex marriage, our society declares by law that mothers are unnecessary, since two men are equally ideal as mothers and as the creators of a family; and that fathers are unnecessary, since two women are equally ideal as parents and as the creators of a family...."

I believe there exits some womyn who make better parents than some men. I also believe there exits some men who make better parents that some womyn.

Yes, too much red meat. 04.Mar.2004 23:29

concerned

There are many groups getting called terrorists--mostly, right now, the environmental and animal rights organizers. I sincerely hope that this common attack leads to some kind of a common defense. Unfortunately, it most likely won't. I know other gays who feel the world will be o.k. once we have equal rights with straights, and are unconcerned about animals being tortured in labs up on the hill; and drive SUVs. Come on fellow gays and lesbians--we can't fight for our own rights and leave the concerns of others in the dust. The insularity of our movement bothers me.

what's wrong with being a cultural terrorist 05.Mar.2004 08:29

andrea pdx

I realize that some right wing folks are freaked out at the spector of the gay agenda sweeping across america.

my initial response was to channel emeperor george "bring em on".

i think we are or should be cultural terrorists. the irony is that such a conventional cultural institution such as marriage is now seen as threat in the hands of the "wrong" people.

we are the WMD's that they've been looking for. Women and Men of Desire.

I agree that people are due the equality of benefits that are otherwise denied them. I don't believe that marriage should make us respectable.

Yes we do love each other. We are capable of raising kids. We are capable of owning homes and being good consumers.

But we are queer. We are not vanilla like. We don't want to marry your daughter (unless she is a dyke). We will infect your children with un christian thoughts like everyone deserves love and its okay to love someone whose body looks like yours.

So we are living next door to you. You know "what" we are. But you don't know who we are because you are too freaked out to talk to us. Get over it.

Thank you to the idiot reactionaries 05.Mar.2004 12:54

GRINGO STARS

The more that certain idiots use the word "terrorist" to describe anyone who doesn't agree with them, the more that word will lose its power as something that marginalises people. I encourage such fools everywhere to call non-fools "terrorists".
