GLOBAL ANTI-WAR MOVEMENT: MARCH 20, 2004

General Assembly of the global anti-war movement, meeting in Mumbai, India, has called for a global demonstration of the people against continuation of the Iraq War. The demonstration has been called for March 20, 2004, (one year after the attack on Iraq), that is, FOUR WEEKS FROM TODAY (February 21, 2004).
ASSEMBLY CALLS FOR GLOBAL RESISTANCE ON MARCH 20, 2004. The General Assembly of the Global Anti-War Movement called on the world to fill the streets on March 20 to demand an end to the occupation of Iraq. The General Assembly of the Anti-War Movement convened on January 19 at the World Social Forum (WSF) in Mumbai, India.

Meeting for the whole day, the Assembly began with an assessment of the current political situation, followed by reports from various activists involved in various anti-war movements around the world. Reports were also made by many anti-war campaigns such as the World Tribunal on Iraq, the "Close the US bases" campaign, the Campaign for Disarmament, the Occupation Watch Center, the Caravans to Iraq and the Civil Missions to Palestine. It ended with a session dedicated to strategizing on ways forward and common campaigns to be supported. Envisioned to be the biggest and most representative meeting of the anti-war movement since the invasion, the Assembly was a collective effort by anti-war coalitions spanning all continents of the globe.

The Assembly had participants and endorsers from the largest anti-war coalitions around the world including the European Coalitions which organised the massive marches on February 15th last year, Stop the War Coalition in the UK, United For Peace and Justice and ANSWER in the US, the Anti-War Coalition in South Africa and the Asian Peace Alliance, as well as various social movements, trade unions and farmer and peasant groups such as the CUT in Brasil, the Social Movements Network and Via Campesina.

Competing with the lively drumming of nearby cultural performers, the dust and noise from the constant flow of passing demonstrations and the general chaos of the WSF, the Assembly discussed, debated and strategized on the ways forward to globalising the resistance and ending the occupation of Iraq.

The Assembly ended with the call for an International Day of Action on March 20, the anniversary of the attack on Iraq. It calls for all movements in all continents to organize mass protests on that day to demand the end of the occupation of Iraq. Different countries will organise protests of different scales and forms; the important point is to mark the anniversary across the world. Resistance in Iraq and around the world is growing daily and March 20th will be the day when the global resistance tells not only Bush but all the occupation troops and warmongers that the movement will not rest until the occupation of Iraq and Palestine and the "war against terror" is ended.

TOUGH LOVE: INTERVENTION DAY for an ADDICT (and an ADDICTION) ! !

It's time for an intervention. The government of the U.S.A. is sick, addicted . . . to war, to violence, to a military budget that is bloated by boondoggles and corruption and crony-ism, to a gargantuan debt to be passed on as our legacy to future generations, to the delusion of the "magic hand" that cures every social ill through the operation of "market mechanisms", to trade imbalance, to deficit financing backed by increasingly worthless electronic dollars, to over-consumption, to "spin" generated by a "Party Central Committee" (Republican National Committee) and spread as "news" by corporate-controlled media, AND, as with all addictions, to LIES that may even be believed by the ADDICT HIMSELF:

Thus, the government of the U.S.A. (the global corporations that control the U.S.A.) offers excuses and lies to the AMERICAN PEOPLE, hoping to get the American people addicted to lies, to the fantasy of super-heroes and SuperAmerica, to the broken promise of family-wage jobs, to steroids and crank and OxyContin, to the false and blasphemous religion of Republocorporatianity, mindless television and other forms of paternalistic panaceas and "passive-ism":

But we know that addicts cannot just quit. That's when an intervention is called for.

So, ALL friends and family of the U.S.A. (the people and the spirit) need to get together and force the ADDICT to see what it is and GET INTO RECOVERY !! Yes, friends of the U.S.A. from all over the world still love US and that's why they are holding the intervention ALL AROUND THE WORLD. But the intervention needs to get in the face of the addict, up close, and CONFRONT the illusions and the delusions -- the PATHOLOGY of the addiction. THAT'S WHERE AMERICAN PATRIOTS -- NO ONE ELSE CAN DO THE JOB -- ARE NEEDED, on the streets, March 20, 2004.

Greens, Reds, Reformists, Democrats, Libertarians, yes, and conscientious Republicans: Put your arguments aside (you can still bring whatever message you want on the sign you carry) and FORM A UNITED FRONT -- NOT just in the election circus, but ON THE STREETS ! !

LET'S DO IT!! MARCH 20, 2004!!

This date marks the One-Year Remembrance of the Day of Betrayal -- the Bush Administration's Unilateral Attack on Iraq in the name of the American people. Since that time, an estimated 16,000 Iraqis have been killed, more than 500 American servicemen and women have died, and, more than 10,000 American servicemembers have been seriously disabled due to injury and disease caused by this war.

IT'S TIME TO GET BACK IN THE STREETS ON SATURDAY,

MARCH 20, 2004

AND SHOW THE WORLD THAT WE WILL NEVER ACCEPT THIS MURDEROUS INVASION INTENDED ONLY FOR THE ENRICHMENT OF GLOBAL CORPORATIONS AND THE POLITICAL AND FINANCIAL GAINS OF OUR ILLEGITIMATELY ELECTED "LEADERS".

ALL THE PROTESTS AND DEMONSTRATIONS PRIOR TO THE 2003 INVASION WERE NECESSARY AND IMPORTANT. BUT NOW IT'S EVEN MORE CRITICAL THAT WE PUBLICLY DISPLAY THE CONTINUING OPPOSITION OF AMERICANS TO THIS BLOOD-DRENCHED MADNESS, THIS CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY COMMITTED DAILY IN OUR NAMES.

Now it's time to show how much we oppose the killing, how much we oppose the lies, how much we oppose the government cabal, and how much we oppose a future dominated by violence and bloodshed created and perpetrated by our nation.

PDX Anti-War Rally, Noon March 20@ N. Park Blocks! 22.Feb.2004 07:26

Lars the Infidel

Portland, in solidarity with anti-war activists worldwide, will demonstrate its continued resistance to the American invasion and occupation of Iraq with a rally set for Noon, Saturday, March 2004 at the downtown North Park Blocks (Park & Burnside streets).

This date marks the One-Year Anniversary of the Bush Administration's Unilateral Attack on the Iraqi Nation and People. Since that time, an estimated 16,000 Iraqis have been killed, and more than 520 American servicemen and women have died as the result of their government's illegal actions.

IT'S TIME TO GET BACK IN THE STREETS ON SATURDAY, MARCH 20, 2004

AND SHOW THE CITY, THE NATION AND THE WORLD THAT PORTLAND

WILL NEVER ACCEPT THIS BARBARIC AND MURDEROUS INVASION

INTENDED ONLY FOR THE ENRICHMENT OF OUR CORPORATIONS AND THE

POLITICAL GAINS OF OUR ILLEGITIMATE GOVERNMENT.

In the event the police attempt to create a cordoned off "Free Speech Zone" at the site, DO NOT ENTER! The North Park Blocks is a large enough area that we will be able to move away from Burnside toward the other end of the grassy area. They can't enclose the entire North Park Blocks.

After a rally to denounce the administration's war crimes, anyone willing and able should be ready to hit the streets for a demonstration march through downtown. The environment at the rally & march will be completely peaceful and non-violent, because that's what we're about! Any tension will only come about as a result of the presence and actions of police and other law enforcement officials. Remember to be flexible and ready to move as the situation warrants.

ALL THE PROTESTS AND DEMONSTRATIONS PRIOR TO THE 2003 INVASION

WERE SO NECESSARY AND IMPORTANT. BUT NOW IT'S EVEN MORE

CRITICAL THAT WE PUBLICLY DISPLAY THE CONTINUING OPPOSITION

OF AMERICANS TO THIS BLOOD-DRENCHED MADNESS, THIS CRIME

AGAINST HUMANITY COMMITTED DAILY IN OUR NAMES.

Now it's time to show how much we oppose the killing, how much we oppose the lies, how much we oppose the government cabal, and how much we oppose a future dominated by violence and bloodshed created and perpetrated by our nation.

SEE YOU AT NOON, SATURDAY, MARCH 20 IN THE NORTH PARK BLOCKS !!
