Germans know fascism when they see it:33% Germans under 30 think US did 9-11;68% media lie

Poll shows many Germans see U.S. behind Sept 11

BERLIN, July 23, 2003

Almost one in three Germans below the age of 30 believes the U.S. government may have sponsored the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington, according to a poll published on Wednesday.

And about 20 percent of Germans in all age groups hold this view, a survey of 1,000 people conducted for the weekly Die Zeit said.

It also said 68 percent of all Germans felt the media had not reported the full truth behind the attacks, in which some 3,000 people were killed when hijacked planes were crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

After the September 11 attacks, there was an outpouring of sympathy from Germans for the United States. Despite misgivings, Germany joined a military campaign against the al Qaeda network that Washington blamed for the attacks.

But as the United States geared up for war against Iraq, relations soured bady as Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder expressed vocal opposition to the plans.

Although the United States took strong offence at Berlin's attitude, Schroeder's anti-war stance was popular in Germany and helped him to snatch victory in last September's elections.

Asked whether they believed that the U.S. government could have ordered the September 11 attacks itself, 31 percent of those surveyed under the age of 30 in the poll answered "yes", while 19 percent overall gave the same answer.

Die Zeit said widespread disbelief about the reasons given by the United States for going to war in Iraq and suspicion about media coverage of the conflict had fostered a climate in which conspiracy theories flourished.

"The news is controlled," 17-year old Kenny Donaubaur was quoted as saying. "You could see that in the Iraq war. It doesn't seem to me thet you get the full truth."

It is worse than just the Germans knowing 21.Feb.2004 04:15

We Americans know it

Maybe the illegitimate USA government will declare war with Germany if they can't successuflly use progpaganda and media blackout to erase the truth that Germans speak of.
Oops, it is not only Germans who know this it is Europe and Asia and Indonesia and so many others....including more and more Americans. What will the terrorists and their agents do now?
Declare on Americans? Homeland security in cahoots with FEMA is accomplishing that now.

A sad american

You know how wrong-wing assholes like to say "America- love it or leave it!" Well, I'm an american who does not love it, but am financially unable to leave it. I AM ASHAMED TO BE AN AMERICAN! There, I said it. I see refugees from abroad being taken into other countries. Now many of these people (most, probably) are FAR more financially screwed than I am- after all, american cast-offs and crumbs are relatively nice- but how do they do it? Why do these countries let them in and how can I be included?
Yes, it makes me feel disloyal to the progressive movement here. I'm 39, I'm poor, I'm tired of the struggle. And can you imagine what it would be like to live in a country where ALL your news isn't propaganda? Where the government is invested in educating their kids and caring for their weakest citizens because its morally right?
This country is a moral cesspool. And I'm NOT talking about gays, transsexuals, potheads or all those wonderful fornicators either. The christian wrong has turned this country into a moral shithole. "Morals" like hate, intolerance and class snobbery I can do without. And hey, while I'm on a sef-disclosure kick, I'll say this: "CHRISTIANITY SUCKS!" There, I said that too. Those self-righteous elitists have never done anything for me but condemn me for being queer.(Something your "God" instilled in me anyway, you fucking idiots.)
So... any expatriots out there reading this, can you help me out? I really don't want to be here when peak oil hits. If you think the fascism is bad now...

Since when are Germans so smart? 21.Feb.2004 13:51

Pollster

Some 41% of Germans agree to the statement, "ordinary tomatoes do not contain genes while genetically modified tomatoes do".
This, of course, is false.

(Before making a point that this is from a 1999 survey, take a look at the 2003 results of this annual survey. They're about the same.)

good point 21.Feb.2004 15:52

not

"Some 41% of Germans agree to the statement, "ordinary tomatoes do not contain genes while genetically modified tomatoes do". This, of course, is false."

Of course, if genetics were as easy to grasp as when you were treated to sheer and patently obvious and quite probably indicative evasiveness by the people who should be giving you straight answers, that might even begin to matter.

I'm pretty sure this assures us all that since 41% of Germans apparently don't have a good understanding of genetics, that 100% of them are completely ignorant about virtually everything, and all of our remaining
9-11 questions have all been magically answered already by the Truth Fairy... or is that just the impression you wanted to make here, Pollster?

German Political Wisdom 21.Feb.2004 16:09

Agrarian Reformer

Yeah, the Germans know fascism, all right - that's why they supported it.

So, the grandfathers of the Germans thought that the Jews were responsible for all the evil in the world...

And now they think that the Americans are responsible for all the evil in the world (and the Jews - just see how many Germans think that Israel is the #1 threat to world peace)...

So exactly why should we listen to the Germans? Maybe they should spend a couple of centuries acquiring some political maturity first. Interestingly enough, even Der Spiegel now admits that Germany is a laughingstock internationally.

Perhaps the Poles are better judges of political reality.

Of course 21.Feb.2004 22:27

But of course. A junior high school knowledge of biology is not "as easy to grasp" as having insight into what would be the greatest conspiracy in the history of the USA.
