On June 8th, the first day of the G8's behind-closed-doors meetings off the coast of Georgia, the Biotechnology Industry Association's (BIO) annual convention will convene in downtown San Francisco. According to the BIO website, "The BIO Annual International Convention is the largest gathering of biotechnology leaders in the world, attracting more than 15,000 biotechnology experts, and featuring over 150 sessions and over 1,200 exhibitors." We must reclaim and transform our communities and the world by asserting our power to create socially just, directly democratic, ecological, equitable, and peaceful alternatives to the agenda of trans-national corporations and the U.S. government, which are trying to gain monopoly control over the global food supply, water supply and the genetic building blocks of life itself. This is a call to begin visioning the next phase of our movement, the phase of building, growing, creating and manifesting solutions to the ecological devastation and social injustice that is clearly articulated by the biotech industry and the G8 at large. San Francisco is the perfect place to create the world we want.
