New Willie Nelson Anti-war Song

Here are the lyrics to the new Willie Nelson song, "Whatever Happened To Peace On Earth?". You can hear a web broadcast of the song's debut during a rally for dennis Kucinich on Jan. 3, 8:00 PM Cntral (6:00 in PDX) at www.kucinich.us. Someone of Nelson's stature will no doubt add momentum to the anti-war movement. There are countless people who are both fans of Willie and who also need to hear this message. "Preachng to the choir" may be great for self-aggrandizement, but folks like Willie will get the mesage to the people who most need to hear it. Bush might "win" the war but WE can still win the peace!
(These lyrics were copied and pasted from the Common Dreams website)

What Ever Happened To Peace On Earth

There's so many things going on in the world
Babies dying
Mothers crying
How much oil is one human life worth
And what ever happened to peace on earth

We believe everything that they tell us
They're gonna' kill us
So we gotta' kill them first
But I remember a commandment
Thou shall not kill
How much is that soldier's life worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

(Bridge)

And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liars word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

So I guess it's just
Do unto others before they do it to you
Let's just kill em' all and let God sort em' out
Is this what God wants us to do

(Repeat Bridge)

And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liars word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

Now you probably won't hear this on your radio
Probably not on your local TV
But if there's a time, and if you're ever so inclined
You can always hear it from me
How much is one picker's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

But don't confuse caring for weakness
You can't put that label on me
The truth is my weapon of mass protection
And I believe truth sets you free

(Bridge)

And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liars word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

Thats suprising.... 01.Jan.2004 14:45

I know Willie and Mr Angry American Toby Keith are palls. As you know Toby Keith is very "courageous" in his support of our troops, and his buying into all the Bu$h propaganda. Its definately the cool thing to do in country music nowadays to write songs exploiting 9/11 ("have you forgotten?", by the way Darrel, I haven't forgotten, but I don't get how 9/11 relates to Iraq, and I never will) or glorifying the killing our government is doing in Iraq ("Angry American" Killing anyone should never EVER be glorified EVER, no matter how "evil" the person is, but unfourtunately the line "we'll put a boot in your ass, its the american way" is an accurate description of the relationship our country has with violence, weither thats with gun control, or foriegn policy). Its really awesome that Willie is speaking out, hes such a legend at this point, he could really retire, or just write pop songs, however unlike most artists, he knows hes so respected he can question what his country is doing, and not get completely blacklisted from the Nashville machine (like the dixie chicks, I still don't think they should have apologized for what they said). Anyway, its noce to know there are artists that understand whats going on. If anyone is interested in some great music, with politicaly active musicians, check out Pearl Jam, Steve Earle, Tom Morello or Billy Bragg

Willie Nelson: Was, Is, and Ever Will Be A Man of the People 02.Jan.2004 10:54

Fan of REAL Country

Anyone who is "surprised" that Willie wrote such a song knows nothing about Mr. Nelson.

Willie is a decent human being and a real lefty.

Even the Washington Post is putting a spin on his protest song. His concert and debut song is too big a story for "them" to ignore so they spin it into another war protestor aka Vietnam style. But his song is includes the dominant media and the complicity of lies they support. Not quite ANOTHER typical war protestor.

Willie has simply sold his soul to the far left. 03.Jan.2004 22:23

His lead stanze bout how much oil one life is worth is a slap in the face of the 18 & 19 year olds who have answer the call of nation, a nation with established procedures President Bush is now using to take the fight to the enemy. yep, the same procedures Clinton used in sending troops to Somilia. Sorry Willie, you lost a very long time friend.

It is amazing that there were only few people in the entertainment industry who spoke against the war. In fact the protest was very mild compared to what I felt what most people felt. Great going Willie. You are the wise one.

Mr. Nelson captures the essence of the times every single time he writes and sings a song. His songs are a great mirror that reflects the tapestry and design of our society today and in years past. No wonder this song touches so DEEPLY. I am sure everyeone who really listens can hear the message he is sending to all of us - BE HUMAN, not just a MAN.

My Hero has always been Willie! 04.Jan.2004 17:12

I just wanted to take the time to express my appreciation for what Willie Nelson is doing and and has done. I wanted to express my appreciation for being the man and gentleman that he really is. Willie is truly a rare commodity unlike thousands who are willing to accept whatever there told. He is one who has the courage to stand up, by speaking out, for what is right. I may or maynot be getting off track here in the following but in addition I've always thought it was so immoral to have plastered all over the place "In God We Trust" such as on our money. "In God We Trust" is written even in the courtrooms yet even the "judges" do not carry out the correct morals as a God would suggest. This really lends, to put on display , just how currupt these political impostures truly are. It is a absolute disgrace not to allow allow the "Ten Commandments" to be displayed in the halls of justice and I would only hope that Mr. Nelson would agree with me. These judges and political impostures do not seek the truth. It is exactly as former governor "Jessie Ventura" of Minnesota said: If politicians truly cared about countries, why wouldn't they help the starving people in foreign countries, in the truest form? Why is it that the political imposture "Bush" chose to help Iraq? As Jessie Ventura put it : the answer is in the three letter word - "OIL". In closing I would like to once again express my appreciation for the work that Willie has done and is presently doing - you are a symbol all should follow. Thanks Willie - we owe ya.

Under the title I see that it says the author is June and Johnny,
could this mean this is a song written by the late greats June and Johnny Cash?
No matter what we are all Americans, we have a right to say how we feel,
and in turn I will say my part right now. We have many Americans in the field
and no matter how I feel about war and my hero, Willie Nelson-
I also love those men and women out there, and 1 thing we must do
no matter how we feel about war, we MUST give these soldiers love and appreciation
when they finally come home. They believe in what they are doing
cause if they dont it could mean life or death in the field.
When they come home, we must not leave them hanging like veterans of other foreign wars before.
Those are our kids out there, BUT they are serving their country and
its the leaders of our nation that have sent our kids to that God for saken land-
and thats what Willie is singing about. We have every right to question why
our government has taken upon itself to take 2 or 3 countries for whatever reason.
The focus on our own people has been shifted to peoples of far away nations and this bothers me.
There is alot of work we could spend those billions on right here in the USA.
"They" are taking our money and spending it to rebuild 2 or 3 other nations-
what good is that for the people right here who are starving and jobless?
If anyone has a problem with Willie for saying/singing how he feels,
then that is your right too, personally I love and respect Willie.

Name is NOT anonymous! I am proud of it. Damn proud of it. I am NOT proud of the twisted "political logic" of Mr Wille Nelson. No one believes ALL that any politician espouses, or they are A-1 dunderheads. This encompasses ALL parties. Politicians are not what we started out with, the ones that really had this country & the people first in their hearts. Yet, we have to rely on PROOF, & the lyrics of this song have NONE behind them. Innuendo, supposition, allegations. That is all. Thou Shalt not kill? Then why is Mr Nelson here, for we should not have "killed " anyone to defend ourselves, our country, in any war. We should be enslaved, & he would be eliminated for spouting the jibberish he is now doing, by the ones that waltzed in & took us over like locusts take over field aftter field. So easy. No resistance. Babies dying, Mothers crying. That has been since time began. Is that President Bush's fault? Really? FDR where are you??? Winston Churchill...where are you??? Hitler..Where are you (I thinK I do know where he SHOULD be, but who knows..really. Mr. Nelson?) Pull the heart strings. Tug the tear ducts....lay on a guilt load on them that tend to let others fight the wars that keep them free, & keep freedom of speach safe for them. Sure, the easy way. I am not saying this Iraq is or was or will be all on the up & up. Howerver, there is no proof he can put out for us to see & not be able to refute, as to the allegations of oil for our sons & daughters & fathers & mothers lives in war. If so, Mr. Bush would be out of office~! The bewildered herd..is hearing Mr. Nelson, who is leader of the Bewildered now, it seems. I was a fan of his. I am not now. I was a back er of Geo. W. Bush, & am not now, but damned if I will sit back & have garbage like this "WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO PEACE ON EARTH" splatter justice & righteousness & possibly truth behind the invasion of Iraq.. with dirt, twisted warped thinking, & using a Country "legend" to pander to the whimps that would not fight for anything good in this GREAT COUNTRY that gives them so much. Apparently...give them TO DAMN MUCH. Anne Lindemugh

Willie is so right in his comment about Toby Keith and 9/11 and again on this one. We were right then in responding as we did. We however have no right to go into another soverign nation and force our lifestyle on those who do not even understand it. Now, we are no better than the leaders who have taken advantage of these people for decades. If a people chooses to be free it is their responsibility to rise up and defeat the oppressor. We did it, just ask Great Britian. We have no more business there than they have here. I have heard it for years, "we must defeat them because if we don't they will __________. " Korea, Russia, Vietnam, Iraq, same old story over and over. We must stay strong and mind our own business. I will not vote for Bush again. I am a Republican, and have served active duty in the US NAVY during Vietnam. What if Canada and Mexico came to Washington and demanded that we destroy all of our WMD. We would tell them to buzz off. Which nation is the only nation to have ever used WMD against another. Both Canada and Mexico could make quite a case

"A many of soldier lost his lifes blood on my blade, the masters hung me in the year of 25 but im still alive." Well Willie your not now. All the sweat that ran down my face in VietNam now feels like streams of fire to see you write and sing a song like this. I am sorry to see you get in line with the Chicks after all the support that America gave you. Even after you screwed the IRS out of the millions as we less priviliged Americans paid our share to keep a sound government. Live large Willie as the liberals scream to the sound of your music. As for us asking who you are and that you know who you are, did you add a turn coat to your list ? Texas why did your son turn his back on you. Will he still wear his red, white and blue on his wrinkled old head and sing as America listens ? O Texas how sad I feel for you and the disgrace he has brought you. But you will be ok because he is among the few that lives his life thinking about lies and living as such. Willie Im so sorry you hill became so slick you fell to the bottom so fast, but you did. Willie and the Chicks singing together. Sounds like a trip to me. Maybe you and the fat Chick can get it on and have a long haired chick and call it the Tex-O-Chick or Chick-O-Shit. Willie , Willie, Willie you threw away your gun and ran. No fight left in those old bones. The wrinkles have left you helpless and gutless. It to hard to look at the RED, White and Blue and be proud. So ride away Willie into the sunset and run your fingers hair through 80 years of living and wonder if ever song you wrote went dry. Good bye Willie,,,,,Good Bye,,,,

A SONG FOR THE FEW 15.Feb.2004 00:56

Joe Savoca

How many people really believe what a politician tells them? Give credit to a new generation Mr. Nelson. We are not like our grandparents and those before them. We believe knowledge is power. It is our quest to find out what is fact and fiction and make a decision based on it. This is something most leftist try to forget. Their cause is much easier to advance if they believe Americans are the "bewildered herd", and "believing everything we've been told from our birth".-Willie Nelson

Mr. Nelson if we have a bewildered herd in our great nation it is the one that believes: We fought this war for oil or to flex our strength. The fact of the matter is we went after an organization that has went unchallenged and not been made to pay for the pain they have caused in our country and others. I can only surmise that this was allowed to occur for so many years because Americans never had to endure the anguish and that empty feeling of hopelessness that these cowardly attacks cause.

You are not nor have you ever been on a front line of a war that has been waged to stop the brutal slaughter of innocent people. What life changes occur to a man or a woman who has looked on a mass grave of hundreds of thousands on innocent people? All destroyed because of the faith they chose. The senselessness of people dieing because they refuse to worship a certain way. These people died trying to achieve what we have. -Freedom. This is the same freedom that lets people write songs full of opinion and starving of fact.

Peace on earth Mr. Nelson? Is that possible when organizations like Al Quada and the Taliban are allowed to conduct attacks on innocent civilians? As a Christian I am appalled that you try to preach the bible to me. The commandment thou shall not kill also applies when you do nothing to stop others from being senselessly murdered. Our soldiers and sailors are out there saving countless lives while sacrificing their own. That is not a lie. If you don't believe the news channel you watch change it!

Please do not sing to me about liars with a song that lacks fact! There is one fact in your song there are mothers crying. These are the mothers who have lost loved ones to the cowards that attack innocent people. The babies dieing are those who have been needlessly slaughtered to advance the movement of an organization that can not wage war against those that armed and ready to fight back.

Sing your song Mr. Nelson. Just realize that this heard of bewildered Americans you sing about are the only ones that listen and believe in it! You too are guilty of distorting the facts

It is not surprizing at all that willie sang such a song as this one. How can willie sing with a conservative like Toby Keith and even sing a song with him called "beer for my horses." Which is a very right wing song. Then go head and sing this song. WILLIE NEEDS TO LAY OFF THE WEED. IT'S TURNING HIS MIND INTO MUSH. I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF HE EVEN KNOWS WHAT HE IS. HE IS FOR SURE A LEFT WING, POT SMOKIN', MIXED UP IN THE HEAD, OLD HIPPIE BASTERD.
