Photojournalist Joel Preston Smith will be at the IFCC showing powerful photographs and telling of his experiences from his recent journey to occupied Iraq.
He will be joined by poet Kim Stafford. Stafford recently edited the volume of his father's writings, "Every War Has Two Losers: William Stafford on Peace and War". Throughout most of the 20th century, from World War I until his death in 1993, celbrated American Poet William Stafford remained convinced that wars don't work. In his poetry and other writing, he showed that it is crucial to think independently when fanatics act and to speak for reconciliation when nations take sides.
The event begins at 7:00 p.m. in the theater of the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center at 5340 North Interstate. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students/seniors, and can be purchased by calling (503) 823-4322.
