Portland's Bush Donors- names, businesses and homes

You want to do something useful to stop Bush? Well, his donors are his power source. They have no hearts, they have no morality and the have no concern for the world. But they run businesses in this town and they care deeply about their profit margins (so boycotting and other actions are effective). Here are their names, businesses and even home zip codes (so you can look them up in the phone book).
These are just the people who's last name starts with the letter "A", who live in Portland, who gave more than $1000 to Bush since January 1, 2003.

Print a few of their names on protest signs. They will be invited to Cheney's little appearance, and with luck they will drive by on the donor bus and see their own names on the protest signs. THAT must really mess them up. If you run out of people here and want some more names, this is the FEC's advanced search page for donors- http://herndon1.sdrdc.com/fecimg/advindsea.html (please note this system searches ALL political contributions, so be careful to not punish the Kuchinich donors for the sins of the Bush donors and vice-versa).

And, since I know the cops read this website at least as much as we do, the following is for their benifit :

"The names listed here were aquired from legal sources in the federal government, and are printed here only to inform people of the political fuding system, and not to support any illegal actions such as harassment, vandalism of businesses, homes, cars, lawns, etc, theft of property from business sites, harassing phone calls and letters, blocing the entrance to these businesses or any other illegal activity. I am not responsible for the use this list is put to, as it is a federal open record."

I think we should gather the business names and amounts donated in an easy to read format and distribute it around portland. I may take this on if I have the time. And informed populace is the only way to move toward democracy.

A kind idea but who would read the letters to them. Is it legal to send them a bag of shit? You know this time of year one can start out with it frozen so it does not smell in the beginning. Just a thought. Clearly they like it.

Compulsive Right-Winger

I think that this is going to backfire on you people very, very badly.

Go for it! (I hope that you enjoy spending a lot of time being sued.)

I'd also suggest that Indymedia Portland is going to be spending a lot of time in court if they allow stuff like this to stay posted.

CRW: A breath of fresh air 13.Dec.2003 11:00

Whenever you point out to these people that they are lowering themselves to the level of Randall Terry and Operation Rescue, they just stare at you blankly. Either the THC or LSD residuals must be keeping this information from getting processed in their brains. I like the idea of suing them, but the only assets they probably own are bongs, roach clips and Eminem CD's.

compulsive right winger 13.Dec.2003 11:13

Teddy Ruxpin

Ok, I am game; exactly how do you think any laws have been broken here? What grounds for a lawsuit are there in this posting? If any website can get sued for posting the names and zip codes of the Bush/Cheney donors, then you would have to start by suing www.FEC.gov, the Federal Elections Commission, for it was their website that provided this information. It is a public open record, and by law it is illegal to hide this info. I did nothing more than plug the zip code into the public search page your tax dollars provided.

Ok, so that shoots down your idiotic "Indymedia Portland is going to be spending a lot of time in court " arguement. Now, on to your other one.

How will this backfire? The names I have published are available to all political parties, and action on these names is not just common, but expressly allowed. Every time you get a "vote for me because I am cool" letter in the mail, it come from the various federal, state and county's election commissions. So unless people go sending letter bombs or throwing bags of burning dog poop at people's front door, this is a legal activity. Reposting of this data on signs, boycotting businesses and the like is exactly the same as what right wingers do when they carry signs decrying Al Gore's campaign fundraising or refuse to buy things from Disney over their stance on gay rights.

This is all legal, it can not be stopped without major revisions to federal law, it is too late for you to try to block it and there is nothing you can do about it.

It just pisses you off that you did not think of this first.

Though dog shit in the mail is tempting. . . 13.Dec.2003 11:14

On Backlashes 13.Dec.2003 11:59

Compulsive Right-Winger

Obviously, there is nothing illegal in posting public records to the Internet.

However, I think that the backlash hits you in three ways:

First, political - if people start getting harassed merely because they gave money to Bush, once the Oregonian and TV stations start picking it up, the vast majority of Oregon voters who don't live on Belmont street are not going to react well to this harassment. Bush nearly won Oregon in 2000 - with just a little work and a little mailed dog shit, you can push Oregon's electoral votes solidly into the Bush column.

Second, although writing letters trying to convince Bush votes of the error of their ways or putting their names isn't a problem, if people's houses and cars start getting vandalized, you are certainly open to civil suits from the victims if you were inciting the vandalizers. And even if you only have bongs, roach clips, and Eminem CD's, you can certainly have your wages garnished for a long, long time to pay off a judgment. I don't think that Indymedia would be immune from the suits, and good luck convincing a jury that the smarmy "disclaimer" at the beginning of this thread wasn't incitement.

And third, I'm not a lawyer, but I am not so sure that you are free from criminal prosecution if you are inciting other people to criminal acts. I do know that some rather draconian new laws would be passed in a millisecond in Salem if people started getting targeted for criminal acts because of their political contributions.

Good luck, junior brownshirts!

Compulsive Right-Winger is playing the last trick in their book...seek to instill FEAR! Failing to stand on

FEAR is all this dude has to sell. Don't pay it! Myself, being retired and on Social Security/Pensions, I'm
not in the least bit afraid of "someone" filling civil lawsuits. Most likely I wouldn't even appear. It'd be like
a big fuck 'em, fuck 'em all, insofar as I'm concerned. Sure, the suit would probably be ajudged default
on my part, but WHAT are they going to get from me????? So, when these right-wing nutters write these
kinds of communications, know they are merely desperate loonies seeking to make you afraid of 'em!
Tell 'em to go get F**KED is percisely what they've got coming as reply! That should clear the air as to
my sentiments on this matter. Enuf said! Keep smiling!

Compulsive Right-Winger

Jlii,

Think very, very hard before proceeding down this road - you want to put people's names on picket signs, go ahead; but encouraging vandalism and violence for political purposes is not a good idea. Even despite the fact that you would be helping to reelect Bush.

P.S. I'm certain that mailing dog shit through the mail is a Federal crime - there are a lot of postal inspectors, and they are very persistent.

Bush is a sinking ship 13.Dec.2003 14:16

and everyone knows it

A targeted boycott would be a good idea. Best to hit people in their pocketbooks; that's the only things Bush supporters can really understand (and hence the fearful responses on this thread). In the not to distant future having supported Bush will be looked upon even less favorably than supporting Nixon. So let's leave these people to the fate of the consciences; that is punishment enough.

Does this mean you don't have a favorite dog? WE need your advice on mailings is it against the law to mail, say anthrax to people. Because if I'm not wrong was not the FBI trying to find them? Why do you think they stopped? Too hard or too close?

Well thanks for the advise on shit. What do you think about moldy bread? I assume when you praise the Postal Inspectors, and a fine job they do union guys you know, you are suspending the anti Post Office remarks like Snail Mail. This is good back paddling since no Corp. in the world can deliver a letter from any mail box in the US to any mail box in the US for 37 cents.

But back to shit what is the thing you hate getting in the mail most? Other than an ACLU fund raising request?

Dear CRW. 13.Dec.2003 14:50

Bird Dog

Who created anthrax.

Why is it not against the law to produce the poison that your petro-chemical corporations make.
If the poison was not around to start with, how could a person send the poison.
This goes right back to the problem(CORPORATIONS).
They make poisons to kill people, but then you say we are evil for trying to stop them.

You need to do some serious soul searching.
You are in bed with the devil and don't even know it!

I think this information should stay public.
By the way, Aren't there new capaign funding laws that limit individual contributions to 2000? Some businesses are allowed to give more, but several of the people on this list have no business or corp. listed as the donors, and have given 4000. Hmmm.. Wonder who's donor lists are going to be investigated by the feds. My hunch is not George Bush's...

Inticement (CRW) 13.Dec.2003 16:46

A reformed ex-republican

Believe it or not, I actually know the legal stance here. Way back when I was a cop (not that long ago), they taught us in the police academy how to tell the difference between an illegal act (for instance telling a person to e-mail dogshit) and a legal act (saying that it could be done).

CRW, you are an idiot, and I double dick dog dare you to call a lawyer, give him this URL and pay him to tell you there is no crime or civil liability here. Then, if you have an ounce of honor, you will post back here saying "shucks y'all, turns out I was wrong."

PS- I like Eminem, but I have no roach clips or bongs; they would interfere too much with being a small business man paying taxes and providing jobs to twits like you. So does that mean you are going to sue me?

I was reading the majority of the top posts and I have yet to see anyone inciting unlawful behavior...unless you are talking about the dog poop thing which I hope you have enough sense of humor to see people are just being silly. But that may be too much to ask. It really becomes tiresome when you make stuff up about "vandalism" and "violence" that are completely unfounded. wake up.

My dear friends I never said dog shit, I just asked if mailing shit in the mail was, in some way, possibly - illegal. It took a self-confessed right winger to lead us to dog shit. Let the record show that he never answered one question ask of him and had the audacity to come into our website and complain about the dialogue.

We should also take note of how effective the IDEA of a poop-gram can be to him. I was trying to show how the 'entitled' are so fragile the slightest little push has them in a dizzy. Also for the record my belief in non-violence is without exception. Simple hurting or killing less then the enemy does not make one better. The moral line is crossed with the first victim.

Should anyone fail to understand the manure matter don't use your own, for if you did that somewhere in some FBI lab technicians would sift through locking up some DNA samples.

Frankly, sending shit or missives won't change these people's minds, they only care about money. Their contributions are investments, why not offset their returns by hitting them in their wallets ? Make sure you are not using their businesses and let them know why.

That said, here are links to postal regulations that might answer the legality question. My read is that to legally send feces you'd have to follow their packaging rules about preventing leakage and put your actual return address on it.

I recognize someone I know in this listing...I'm shocked too! 14.Dec.2003 00:25

let me tell you why

When I came across this thread earlier today, I noticed a name that was familar. I called some mutual
friends to let them know, and they too checked to this website. Wow! Were we ever shocked, as it do
very much seem that this person listed is a person we know. It is disgusting that this person puts on
a face to us that is at total variance to a Bush supporter, and yet, behind this false mask is a Republi-
can contributor who seemly is ashamed to let us know. Well, thank you for publishing this list, as we
have ever intent to confront this individual and give them a richly deserved belittling. Please publish
more than the A list, as I'm sure we'll find others on this nasty list that we know, do business with, or
are members of our respective churchs, clubs, or service organizations. If these people have got so
much money to waste on a loser like Bush, then by God they can help contribute to the concerns that
we uphold, and we're not above goading them or shaming them on this Bush bullshit! Portland Indy-
media you are to be congratulated for this powerful service to the public. It is an eye-opener. Thanks!

So, wait, it might be LEGAL to mail Bush donors dog shit? 14.Dec.2003 00:28

Ok, if this is legal, is anyone ballsy enough to buy a big pack of those sandwhich-size disposable tupperware tubs, slap their return address on it and stuff them in the mail? Near as I can tell, there are at least 800 Bush donors on this list in the city of Portland alone though, so that's an awful lot of postage, and that does not even nclude Lake Oswego people. . .

Well, it seems to me a social committe should form dedicated towards enlightening neighbors about the financial contributions of these people. After all they are funding reformed nazis. Or neo nazis. Or grand daddy nazis and grand sonny boy is just genocidal in the name of helping blind side people to the acitivies and names of the carlyle group including Ossama's connection to himself through the Defense buisness.

Anyways, a nice day of anti caroling should be arranged in their neighborhood. How about the words of " We wish you a merry X mas" adapted to this news breaking project. How embarrassed would you be in carolers were singing about you and your financial backings of politicians which is essentially lobbying. I think a lot of people would care. If done humorously enough you could get people lurede away from corporate media!

Publishing more of the list 15.Dec.2003 01:08

Teddy Ruxpin

Sorry guys, there are over 191,000 registered Bush donors, it would take me until well after the election to put up the complete list, even if I just did Oregon and Washington's thousands of donors.

These were all the "A"s in Portland for Bush, this does not even cover the suburbs nor does it cover the rest of the alphabet. I will see if I can find a way to write a macro or something that will chew the list down some so I can put it on here, but that could take me a very long time. If I manage it though, I will put it as a new category posting, rather than at the end of this one.

I am working on the list anyway 15.Dec.2003 04:51

Teddy Ruxpin

I am ging through all 219 pages of names, by hand, because I have a lot of coffee and spare time. I am up to the "L"s now, and I have a question:what the hell is with people supporting both Bush and Wyden (a democrat)? Many, if not most, of the Wyden contributors are also Bush contributors? WTF?

Also, bad news guys, the people that run Timberline are major Bush donors, but it looks like they pretty much give to every campign they can find. That must be why they keep getting that sweet contract to run Timberline Lodge.

Oh, and MERRILL, DENNIS C., a Portland Police Officer (the only one I have found so far) gave twice to Bush, $250 each time.

And for those who wonder what the rest of our government types are doing, the vast majority of City of Portland employees who donate give to Howard Dean and the Democratic National Convention (employees of Portland public schools, PCC, PSU and UNP also are democrats or third party types, judging by their funding choices. Guess those educators are at least smart enough to not give cash to Bush).

Yes, there are a hell of a lot of people who seem to just have donated multiple times by changing their names (such as donating under "John, Johnathan, Johnny). Anyone want to see about prosecuting them? Anyone at all? Damn. We need more anti-Bush FBI agents around here.

Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same coin! 15.Dec.2003 15:00
