Solidarity Actions

Is anyone planning a solidarity action against the FTAA talks? I would like to know if there is anything happening in Eugene, myself, but please post for others what you know of.

WHY A RACE TO THE BOTTOM?
This week trade ministers from across the hemisphere will
gather in Miami to negotiate another round of the massive extension of the
North American Free Trade (NAFTA) into the largest ever multi-lateral
trade agreement, the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA.)
Simultaneously, hundreds of thousands of people from across the Americas
will mobilize in demonstration of resistance to neoliberalism and for
economic and social justice.

The US wants to implement the FTAA by 2005, and Washington State's
congressional votes are THE MOST IMPORTANT IN THE NATION. In order to stop
the FTAA, Washington State must demonstrate opposition to "free trade" and
FOR fair trade alternatives and local economic justice.

The Race to the Bottom will be a demonstration of "free trade" agreements'
perpetual race in which corporate profits trample everything in their
paths. This unique and fun demonstration will specifically address local
issues affecting Western Washington and King County. The route will pass
sites addressing both currant and threatened local impacts of "Free Trade"
and neoliberalism in our communities including:

-Local Structural Adjustment and Cuts to Human Services
-Impacts on Family Farms and Local Agriculture
-Privatization of Federal Jobs and Washington State Ferries
-Trade and Domestic and International Militarization
-Destruction of local economies, displacement and forced migration
-Current sites of workers facing layoff and loss of benefits
-Privatization of Water, Electricity, and Education

LETS ORGANIZE: Use the RACE TO THE BOTTOM as an opportunity to talk to
your friends, family, and co-workers about economic justice and the FTAA.
Form a team, large or small and run, walk or roll the RACE TO THE BOTTOM.
Pizza and Karaoke Parties for best teams; massage, clothing, fair trade
gifts and goodies for individual prizes...
