Monitor the Media Coverage of the FTAA

Why War? will be continually scanning news reports for the most crucial information about the FTAA meetings and the protests. Monitor the news media -- mainstream and alternative -- and keep up-to-date on "security" developments and arrests.

Randi Rhodes on Internet radio is reporting on the FTAA demo 20.Nov.2003 13:36

Moby

If you have Windows Media on your computer, you can listen to Randi Rhodes on WJNO in West Palm Beach. She's getting reports from someone in the streets with a cell phone, and they're also monitoring a local cable channel that is showing the demonstration and the police, who are dressed like storm troopers and basically rioting against the demonstrators. Her show runs from noon to 2:50 pm, so there's still time to listen today (Thursday). It's AM radio and they can't broadcast commercials, so there are large silent gaps in the show, so if you don't hear anything, hang in there and give it a few minutes.

Commercial TV station showing Miami demonstrations 20.Nov.2003 13:55

Randi Rhodes also mentioned this site, a FOX (ugh!) TV station showing pictures and giving highly biased commentary - definitely NOT "fair and balanced" (but you knew that).

For perhaps less bias, although I haven't tuned in yet, another station affiliated with one of the big three networks is also showing online coverage:

 http://www.click10.com/index.html

According to Randi's man in the street - he apparently has microphones and isn't using a cell phone as I mentioned earlier - says the police shot him three or four times with rubber bullets and then herded a group of journalists, not to safety, but right into the thick of the demonstration.

live is too short 20.Nov.2003 14:10

a mind is a terrible thing to waste

Don't waste your time polluting your minds with corporate media police propaganda.

btw, that fox station 20.Nov.2003 14:12

a mind is a terrible thing to waste

That fox station was running a live helicopter video devoid of commentary (silent feed) but they quickly stopped it when they decided it wasn't portrayin things the way they wanted.

Moby - the click10 coverage was disgusting 20.Nov.2003 14:44

0rganism

Even non-Fox establishment press is disgustingly unwatchable.

"Did you feel safe, even with all those demonstrators?"

"Oh yes, the violent police presence mad me safe from their evil drums and signs."

Mass media is now the paid whore of the GOP.

Lots of coverage for Michael Jackson, tho. In between the Peterson trial, the Kobe trial, and now MJ, the population can be effectively distracted until bush has stolen the 2004 election.

a tad disingenuous 20.Nov.2003 15:46

"Mass media is now the paid whore of the GOP."

It's not like democrats aren't just as supportive of corporate globalization, the police state, complete media control.

But the right wing does not control the media, right? 20.Nov.2003 15:49

They would not lie to us.
They are our friends, right.
Poison in our water and in the food and pharmaceuticals they control.
Not to mention that they control information by means of the term, top secret.

Some information probably is for true national security.
But the lies tolled to us in the past would not indicate that we can't trust them.

Not to mention that they treat the world like their own private sand box.
And if anyone gets in the way, first over through the current government and replace with a dictator controlled by the purse strings of the rich.
Then after selling them weapons in order to make money and cause discourse in the reagon, go in under the guise of saving the world and everything is justified.
Sounds like a corporate take over, don't you think.

Just because they have lied to us in the past, is that any reason not to trust them.
But no worry, they would not lie too us, would they?
