New indymedia film, "Forest & Consciousness", debuts at CFA Forest Revue, Thurs. Nite, 8pm

Two months in the making, and 28 minutes in length, "Forest & Consciousness", is a great personal accomplishment for me (especially as a new videographer). I brought together video footage from the Solo Timber Sale, much of my writing from the portland indymedia site about regional forests, and narration by a local poet, for a result which is very different than your usual political video. Factual reporting is mixed with lush nature footage and metaphysical observations in this more artistic work. It will be showing at December Videos From The Resistance showings around town, but will have its debut at the CFA Cascadia Forest Revue on Thursday night, at It's a Beautiful Pizza at 8:00 p.m.

Can We Get A Copy To Show In Arkansas? 19.Nov.2003 23:37

David Garcia dgarcia@arkansas.indymedia.org

There are forest defenders scattered throughout the Ozarks, so we'd love to get a copy of your film to show in our area. There are at least three venues we could plug it into down here right away. One is our local cable access channel. Another is a bi-weekly video program sponsored by one of our local peace and justice groups. The third is putting a copy in our public library system.

We are still pretty low tech though and would need either a dv or vhs tape, not a dvd. Please email me about making arrangements to get a copy.

Thanks,
David

Shock & Awe Logging in the Siskiyous

From an earlier post at:  http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2003/11/274915.shtml

Thursday's Cascadia Forest Revue: Shock and Awe Logging coming to the Siskiyous
author: siskiyous.org e-mail:  rolf@siskiyou.org

There has been lots of media attention recently on the brewing "Showdown in the Siskiyou" over plans to log sensitive Biscuit fire-affected areas. This no normal timber sale. In fact, this could be the single largest logging operation in the history of our National Forests. Monstrous, extreme, "shock and awe logging"...call it what you like, but this is the nation's next big conservation fight - and it's in our backyard.

The Bush Forest Service is planning to log up to a billion board feet of trees from sensitive, Biscuit-fire affected forests in southwestern Oregon's Siskiyou Wild Rivers area. This extreme logging proposal is unlike anything else in living memory - amounting to about quadruple the combined logging on all National Forests in Washington and Oregon last year.
Hey folks,

Bring a friend and spread the word - we'll see you at the Revue!

Cascadia Forest Revue:
The Largest Logging Project in Modern History!

Thursday, November 20th - 8:00 PM
It's a Beautiful Pizza, 3341 SE Belmont, Portland
Sliding scale donation ($3+) welcome, not required

The Bush Forest Service is planning to log up to a billion board feet of trees from sensitive, Biscuit-fire affected forests in southwestern Oregon's Siskiyou Wild Rivers area. This extreme logging proposal is unlike anything else in living memory - amounting to about quadruple the combined logging on all National Forests in Washington and Oregon last year.

This scheme would drive chainsaws into the heart of the largest unprotected roadless areas on the Pacific coast between Canada and Mexico, threatening tens of thousands of acres of wild roadless forests. Quickly becoming the most controversial forest battle in the nation, your help is needed to stop this monstrous, extreme logging scheme.

In an interactive slideshow, Rolf Skar with the Siskiyou Project will introduce you to the Siskiyou Wild Rivers area, explore fire ecology and share ways you can help save this national treasure!
