A court-appointed guardian decided to kill a badly disabled man this week.
Douglas K. Schmidt died Tuesday morning in a Portland hospital, 46 hours after he was removed from a ventilator at the request of a court-appointed guardian.
He collapsed in his apartment after having a seizure that was the result of the state refusing to pay for the drugs he needed to save his life. He became brain damaged as a result of the seizure and the guardian decided 8 months later that his life wasn't worth living. Not to his family and friends and certainly not to the state.
This was not Physician-Assisted Suicide. This was state-sponsored murder.
