Rudy Guiliani coming to Portland Nov 10

Fascist prick coming to PDX for fluff speaking engagement
Source: page A11, today's Register Guard
Rudy "Zero Tolerance" Guiliani will be in PDX Monday November 10 at the Rose Garden to headline a day of cheesy Motivational Speechs by the likes of Joe Montana and Goldie Hawn. Get Motivated Seminars Inc. (not making this up) has an info line: 1-800-318-3903. No website tho' ... who the hell takes out a full page ad in the newspaper these days and doesn't even have a website? Obviously not someone who's very motivated.
Like maybe someone who wasn't motivated to call the Air Force after a jumbo jet crashed into a building. Also: "Special! You and you're entire office (that's 10 people) are entitled to attend this spectacular day of training, inspiration and motivation for a total investment of only $49!" Do I need to paint you a picture?
Anyhow, I hope all you crazy lefties and circle-a kidz take that information and do something with it that will bring more entertainment into my life.

Mike Ruppert seemed to say on KBOO Tuesday morning that he thinks the-powers-that-be may be looking at GUILIANI as a replacement for Dubya for the GOP presidential nomination in 2004, since some think that the Bush team has gone a bit far and is fucking things up in the broader view of the new world order. (Do you think Rudy has the vision to take a longer view of history?)

An Adult

It gets old seeing destructive comments from those who don't have enough vocabulary to state their case without profanity. Reinforce your argument instead with some succint and intelligent commentary and perhaps even some constructive criticism. Let's also see some evidence that you know something about the person you are slamming. Then perhaps more people will pay attention to what you have to say.

It's free speech, stupid 22.Oct.2003 15:13

First, a comment on the article above: I thought it was funny, especially the "who takes out a full page ad" part. The language may be raw and profane, but it's direct and points out the idiocy of the event. The profanity grabs attention and raises ire to redirect that energy to what's being commented on.

Second, a comment on the use of profanity and intelligence, directed out our "Adult" friend (and let me just add that I am an adult, too, thank you): Yes, there are stupid people who overuse it, misuse it or use it without regard. However, there are also those of us who are, in fact, quite intelligent and use it because:

A. It is the most direct and succinct language at that moment to convey the strength of our emotion or opinion (often the profound extent of our disgust).

B. We know that it will offend certain people and, therefore, use it precisely to offend or to get a rise out of that audience. The point is it is used to protest against folks who seek to control or direct our speech or infringe on our personal actions or choices, which are areas that are really none of those folks' business to be attempting to control.

This is why I raise the issue of free speech. One of the great things about this country is we are afforded the freedom to use profane and offensive speech without a great deal of censure. And, you, likewise are afforded the right to say you don't like it.

However, bear in mind that the more someone criticizes it or attempts to correct it, the more the need to use offensive speech (including those four-letter words) is affirmed among those of us who do.

Finally, please, note that I have given you a succint and constructive commentary without one four-letter word -- and have done so by choice -- proving that those of us who do use offensive speech are capable of intelligent discourse and a greater grasp of the English language than you know.

just a rabbit in a human world....

It is humorous how "our adult friend" and "copy goddess" have so much in common yet such differences in opinion

It is humorous how "our adult friend" and "copy goddess" have so much in common yet such differences in opinion. I tend to agree with "An Adult" in that it often takes much more foresight, thought, creativity, (and often intellect) to "convey the strength of [your] emotion or opinion (often the profound extent of [y]our disgust)" WITHOUT the use of such bottom of the barrel, lowest common denominator, profane, "R-rated" movie language.

I agree with copy goddess that this profanity is often the most direct and offensive to certain people. Although, being offensive, simply for the sake of being offensive is not necessary a good thing. Why do you want to be offensive? Just for the inner satisfaction you get knowing you reduced the enjoyment of someone else's day while consequently elevating your own? How selfish and crude that is. If you actually have an opinion as you claim then why don't you use a form of communication that may actually cause your opponent to open their mind to your valuable ideas instead of immediately shut down and turning the other way?

Instead of seeking to "offend or to get a rise out of that audience," why don't you seek to (and forgive me for using this word here) "MOTIVATE" that audience to action? Isn't that what you really want everyone to do anyway? Come to a common ground and fight for the same cause????? ...or do you simply wish to always have an adversary to slam for your own self-righteous gain?

I am interested to see what happens at the "Get Motivated" seminar on Monday.... and by the way, author, I agree... who DOES take a full page ad in the newspaper these days and doesn't even have a website? That's ridiculous.....

On the other hand.... "...maybe someone who wasn't motivated to call the Air Force after a jumbo jet crashed into a building." Come on now.... I'd like to see how YOU would have reacted had you been in charge one of the city with the largest cities in the world when it came under attack... How large of an organization have you ever been charged with? And to echo our adult friend.... "Let's also see some evidence that you know something about the person you are slamming. Then perhaps more people will pay attention to what you have to say."

Well... Today is the day.... I don't see any additional response. I don't know about you, but I'm off to see Zig Zigler and Rudy Guliane (however you spell his name).

I'll be looking for you all there today.....

God Bless....

Anyone stuck in traffic? 10.Nov.2003 10:14

road rager anonymous

I'm Republican, I like Rudy, but morning traffic psed me off today. That motivational thing cost the Portland economy MILLIONS today in late truck shipments, late workers, late couriers, etc etc... not to mention some not-happy people at 8-9am... Today, I'm not Rudy fan.. maybe in few days from now...

don't you listen to the news? 11.Nov.2003 12:58

rabbit

I'm republican too.. . I like Rudy too.... There was news coverage about the event before it happened. Perhaps if you would ride your bike or take the MAX, you wouldn't be stuck sitting in the Freeway Parking Lot. It's awefully selfish to be mad at everyone else for your own mistake of not paying attention to the traffic reports before you got on the freeway. :)

....sorry, but I don't have much sympathy for ya....

See...you were able to get your point across without any profanity.....so, why use it at all?
