N Portland - Rally This AM - What For?

Anyone know what the demonstration on N. Killingsworth near the North Portland Library this AM was about?
Anyone know what the demonstration on N. Killingsworth near the North Portland Library this AM was about? I was driving west on Killingsworth, headed home at 10:30 am and found Killingsworth blocked by motorcycle cops. Three or four blocks west I could see lots of marchers with signs, chanting something I couldn't hear. The cops were redirecting traffic onto side streets. When I asked one what the event was, he said he didn't know. The marchers were headed east on Killingsworth and were filling the street.

On the evening of Wednesday, November 20, 2002, 23-year-old Asia Renee Bell and her husband, 26-year-old Tyrone Lee James, whose birthday it was that day, along with their friend, 28-year-old Robert Milhouse, were setting on the front porch of the couple's home at 5706 N. Mississippi Avenue. Asia Bell's four children, including her seven month old son, were inside. At just before 10:00 p.m., the three adults were still on the front porch when an unknown subject, or subjects, fired numerous shots. Asia Bell was killed, Tyrone James was wounded and permanently blinded, and Robert Milhouse was wounded but recovered. Asia Bell's children escaped injury.

Thanks for the information. Lately I freak when I see so many police, but if there was a permit, maybe they were only there to guarantee the safety of the participants?
