Release of President Bush

I don't understand hatred. I don't understand why people think that hatred is the answer. I don't understand why it is in this part of the country. I am so sad to see people who could use their valuable time healing and doing good works that in the eyes of our planetary existance is so direly needed instead destroy themselves and their neighbor's trust. No one changes in hatred.
This is my first article here at Portland Indymedia.

First of all, I did not vote for President Bush. I don't condone the decision of the Supreme Court, but since I know why we have such a country that has flaws and people not able to think they have any power over their lives, much less vote for it, I know we did it to ourselves.

I sat with the election decision for a long time. The issue of literacy is critical in this country. The best I could see of why Bush was chosen in the highest spiritual manner was actually about a strong First Lady. For Laura Bush her to come into her own power and advocacy in the Unites States regarding her love of teaching and reading. If more people become literate (49% are not, including computer literacy), we won't have the problems we have today. So far she has started the Book Fair of Washington D.C. to follow up her work in Texas. And Texans are better for it.

I don't like the oil business, don't own a car, reduse, reuse, and then recycle the rest of materials I buy, I eat organic as much as I can afford, and use fans to cool down. I heal the earth with my solitary actions, no need for others to know about it.

There is a lot I have worked on in the last year regarding Bush's views and budget cuts. A year ago I spent much time praying, meditating, but also writing and sharing with people the issue of the current administration wanting to get rid of passenger trains - Amtrak. With no consideration to those who simply can't ride an airplane (medical problems) or access to other modes of transportation, and the now celebration of the 200th anniversary of Lewis & Clark Expedition and 175th Anniversary of the first Train/train track system the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) I was enraged. I was on the Empire Builder when the announcement came about the possible collapse. I instead envisioned an America where we had the technology of Europe and Asia and that Bush would take a train across the United States to see what he has never, nor could ever see again if there was no train. I decided in seeing more and more people choosing to take trains thereby strengthening our ability to be self-sufficient and not need to seek airguzzlers (planes) as our mode of transportation, the main reason for oil purchase.

I recieved an e-mail asking me if I know of any Bush events. This is the original reason why I was inspired to write. I went to Portland Independent Media Center to find that their is only one listing - events leading to take the position of hating President Bush. "P Resident Bush - Evil" says it all. I believe that there is much work to be done, and not taking notice that the president is here would be the best - that no one shows up. People are hurt and animals are dying. How can so many waste time on hatred?

I am wondering if you know what is "Evil." Evil is your whole family dieing in the Holocaust. Evil is having everything you love and cherish destroyed by people who live in the neighborhood you helped save their school from closing and advocating that perceptions of it be seen in otherways. Evil is what you put out thinking that you combat evil with evil. Evil is ones cat taken to be experimented on in a Portland hospital lab. Evil means that there is no redeeming ability.

People have bullets. They are called negative thoughts. And each thought goes around the world whether you like it or not. And things you hve no idea of you may of inflicted. The fearful thought of a certain "bad" neighborhood just adds to someone maybe just marginally thinking about how they are going to have some money to actually closer examining the option and maybe breaking into a car or home to steal something. The thoughts we have, and share grow. The New Testament talks about when two or more are in my name..... Thoughts grow larger and manifest into physical reality. This is true in most religions the belief that two or more can change though processes.

We have a HUGE responsibility in us all living at this time. Our belief systems have drawn deep gaps and imaginary boundaries have become almost physical. We have a responsibility to be ourselves, hence responsiblie for our actions. I don't believe, and I am not alone, that hatred is the answer.

My belief is that one needs to give suggestions of what could be instead.
How about instead of painting signs, paint a building in need of it.
Some of our public schools have burned and are in need ot support. How about painting signs welcoming the students back to school? What a wonderful sight that would be!!!!
How about spending Thursday night tutoring a kid whose forgotten how to read over the long summer?
How about spending Thursday night at the library educating yourself on art, music, science, civics, politics, history of your favorite author, musician, humanitarian?
How about all that money you have put together and bought some non-GMO food and fed the homeless?
How about just sitting in silence, not speaking a word since Silence is the Universal Corrective. No fire, no fuel given, none taken.

I wrote in the description, "I don't understand why it is in this part of the country," refering to hatred of President Bush. Where does hatred come from? Is it easier to hate when further away from Washington D.C.? Is it easier when most of people here never leave more than 50 miles circumference of where they were born? Is it easier to hate when one has less roots, connection to ancestry to the people that founded this country?

I wish for you to have something else to focus on - your grandmother, your nephew, your long estrange friend. I wish you joy and peace. I see people awakened to their infinite power within themselves to change things rather than demonizing others for their pain.

I have suggestions beyond what is here, how we can join, how we can envision a beautiful world and then create it. The sad thing is that I I don't feel comfortable placing my name here. That as you attack others, you might attack me. I don't want to believe that. I choose not to right now, and forever.

Peace,
Seaseals

But what exactly leads you to believe that people hate Bush? As I have often said I have never hated anyone or anything, but I will be protesting Bush. Do not confuse hatred with anger; the 2 are not the same. Anger can be beneficial, especially if lovingly expressed, while hatred is destructive to the hater and everything and everyone around them. Do not confuse hatred with opposition, even vehement opposition; the 2 are not the same. Opposition to destructive policies and attitudes are necessary if we are to survive. While your suggestions are great, you cannot deny that this administration is assaulting every one of them on a national scale. It's great to help people learn to read, and it would be better if we spent money on education instead of 50% of our money going to the military. Or don't you see the connection between an administration that is bringing people up under the threat of nuclear war once again and people not wanting to learn, or even live. If we are to keep living on this planet we must stop policies of destruction and desolation and build something new. But there are those who are befitting from every item on the Bush administration agenda, and they would have you believe that those protesting Bush are all hate filled monsters, communists and anarchists, angry democrats and angry minorities, homosexuals and perverts. They want you to believe anything and everything but the truth. You should come to the protest; you might be pleasantly surprised. But I am still wondering where you got the notion of hatred. Strong words do not mean hatred lies beneath, neither do acts of protest or civil disobedience. I was thinking of writing a piece on why I protest Bush, and I guesss this shows that there is a need for people to understand some of the motivations involved.

thats nice........ 19.Aug.2003 23:01

but!

We hate Bush because he is pure evil........... ther is no denying this and it is 100% true....... just ask all the innocent dead and armless and leg-less young Iraqis who were killed and maimed as a result of his unjust and un-provoked war on this country. sure he may appear charming and nice enough when you see or him him speak... but that is deception. Jusdge him by his actions and teh evil and destruction he has un-leashed.

I've had my fair share of spiritual practice and in the end sometimes viewing all as having vitue is just plain naive.. out hatred is real and it is valid...... but it is for the good, not the bad of humanity.... real ignorance can begin with failing to recognoze shear evil and believing that hatred of it is wrong. It is not.......

Meditating and spiritual practice are very beneficial, it is good for the soul, teh individual and society at large... however remember that dogma and the attempt to parlay spiritual practice into the political realm has been the cause of countless wars and much suffering.

You are free to beileve what you wish, and yes, it might be good if there was not so much hatred of Bush, but tonly if he did'nt do things to actually deserve the hatred that is being directed towards him.

I'm sorry but not hating Bush is just plain stupid and naive, though we hope for the goodness of his soul to emerge and his potential to be a force of good..... I'm afraid in this case it is an empty hope.

It is our right to hate him, just as the republicans hated Clinton..... we do not wish him physical harm, we just don't want him to continue to be our "pResident"

Seaseals...... 19.Aug.2003 23:19

PDXer

Tell ya what.......when we are all put into concentration camps and Gulags or whatever, I PROMISE TO GOD that I will nominte you for leader of the Pep Squad! Oh yeah, we will really need your sunshiney disposition then.

Until that day comes, however, I will stand with and to the side of anyone on this earth who is willing to stand up to this bastardized regime.

Please educate yourself...... 19.Aug.2003 23:26

Researcher

Please read the following website from top to bottom. And when you are fully apprised of WHO the friggin enemy is, you will be justified in issuing an opinion about the people's response to it. Until then......you need to keep your head in the sand and enjoy your life while you can.

www.pnacrevealed.com

Is it hate that I have for Bush? Well, considering he is just a spokesmodel for the PNAC.......he doesn't have the influence or the brains to warrant my personal hate or love for him.

You know all those Americans who HATE OBL and the evil terrorists out there? Why are they in such a TWIST about 9/11? BECAUSE they feel threatened, fearful and angry that the terrorists did what they did. That the hijackers hurt our country. And lord.....look at the EXTREME measures founded on hate that have been taken by all those "patriots" under the guise of love of country. WOW! Ever read the Patriot Act?

So........why are we wrong to have such a healthy vehemence against persons who are doing the same thing that the "patriots" believe the hijackers did?

Now, please read that website. It's heavy stuff for sure. But it isn't going to kill you to get educated. You can reject it if you want. But before you come in here on your moral high horse, you owe it to the people you put down to do the research. And ya know, you really owe it to yourself............. It is your DUTY to know who, what, why your govt acts......they are acting in YOUR GOOD NAME.

I agree 20.Aug.2003 00:07

I absolutely agree. Some have said publicly that they will protest Bush simply for the sake of letting him know that "he is not welcome here." That spirit goes against the very things that our country was founded on.

wake the fuck up "i agree" 20.Aug.2003 01:40

Dr. Alert

This Country was founded on liberty and justice for all..... that includes people registering their dis-content with that Evil bastard "W". Just as he has the right to come "visit" (read raise money for his campaign) we have the right to enthuse our feeling that to us he is not welcome..... DUH! when you say "Some have said publicly that they will protest Bush simply for the sake of letting him know that "he is not welcome here." You miss the point entirely......... just be glad you aren't an Iraqi citizen or a U.S. soldier who had to get maimed or killed for no good reason other than W's blood lust and thirst for oil. Go back to reading your "lady's Home Journal" and leave the very american and important political dissent to us... indeed it IS what our country was founded on!!!!

Hey, what's wrong with the "Ladies Home Journal?" ;)

Well, I think Seaseal made some valid points, however I think one can differentiate between hating someone and protesting their political methods. But, do I hate Bush? No. Do I think Bush is 'evil'? No. I simply cannot hate anyone on a basic human level and I don't think anything is as black and white as "good and evil". I believe hatred does breed the kind of injustice we're fighting against, so I would say that some of us need to reevaluate what we really mean by 'hate' and 'evil', but that doesn't mean we can't take to the streets to show our support for an dissident or opposing point of view, along with the other wonderful community efforts Seaseal described.

Actually, bitch... 20.Aug.2003 02:56

OK. I can't leave the website until I've responded to your comments. (I tried, but I can't.)

Bitch,

To tell you the truth, I think YOU have missed my point.

I never said that protesters should not have the right to protest something they are strongly against. No one is suggesting that.

To clarify, the spirit of wanting to make someone feel unwelcome is not in corroborance with the spirit and the ideals under which this country was founded. You say that this country was founded on "liberty and justice for all." That is certainly part of it, but this is not all our country was founded on. Our country was also founded with a certain spirit in mind. Protesting SOLELY for this reason goes against that.

It is not wrong to protest, but it is--at the risk of being called a naughty word by you--wrong to protest without any other reason except wanting someone to feel unwelcome. By doing this, protesters are not only being hateful, but also basically saying that they speak not just for themselves but also for the entire city of Portland. This isn't your city alone--it is mine as much as it is yours. I did not welcome Hillary (a liar, cheat, and thief) the day she came to Borders for her book-signing, but I did not attempt to block the roads because I wanted to make her know she was not welcome--in your name. Had I had a bigger beef with her, it may have been plausible. But not solely for wanting to make the bitch cry.

You would be a fool--which it is already clear that you are--to think that your actions can speak for an entire populace. You advocate dissent, yet if anybody (like myself) expresses an opposing view to your own, you immediately lose your head. I only wrote two sentences and it was enough to get your blood boiling and your panty-hose into a knot. You are also a hypocrite for saying that you embrace the "liberty...for all" this country was founded on, yet you think that you can instruct me to shut up and go read my Ladies Home Journal.

Piss off.

Hatred is not the answer ... (but maybe "evil" can do some good) 20.Aug.2003 07:39

Seaseal's basis statement is a completely valid point. Hating Bush won't save the world. The point goes unsaid and it needs to be said. And HEARD. What's more, EXPRESSING hatred on Thursday won't enlighten a single soul.

I enjoy hating Dubya. I disrespected him immediately when I first heard in '98 that he was running for president, although I'd never sever nor heard him. I love to think he's evil, although my real belief is closer to the idea that his behavior and intentions are evil, not the person himself. I think I love to hate him in order to avoid thinking about how powerful he and his regime and its co-conspirators are and how despicable he and his regime's actions are.

I always put up a psychological block to him and especially his words when I see or hear him in the media; I kind of look at him out of the corner of my eye and dull my senses so not too much gets in. I can't think of anyone else in the media that I've ever reacted to in such an intensively defensive way (although I reacted a bit similar to his father). Perhaps I'm intensely jealous of his success or I fear his inexplicable power (how could he or Hitler be so popular???) or I just intuitively feel, rightly or wrongly that it (Dubya) is evil. I think it's related to the fact that I distrust every public statement from his lips so completely that I don't want to get caught up in perhaps believing a little something. Therefore, I have absolutely no sense of him as a human being.

But HATRED won't accomplish anything positive. -- As has been said above, hatred is NOT the same thing as ANGER, but mindlessly expressing anger isn't useful either. Anger only leads to positive results when it's conciously channeled into positive intentions. And sometimes that ain't easy - like when your own city's cops are attacking you.

So let's REMEMBER the REASONS for our anger, and the LIFE and NEW PARADIGM we AFFIRM. And let's remember that when we wantonly feel our hate and express our rage we are giving way to petty behaviors that we have in common with Dubya. If we truly want to have SOMETHING ELSE in our lives, we'll use Thursday as a unique opportunity to focus on our LOVE for each other, our neighbors, and the rest of the planet, and on our IDEALS and our visions for the future.

And also remember, if we don't take full advantage of Dubya's "evil", we could be really screwed: Dubya's policies aren't a whole lot different than Clinton's; Clinton just found other things to focus on to gratify himself with in the short run. Hopefully Bush's greed and lust for power are so extreme that their transparency will soon become his own undoing Then we'll merely need to look a little embarrassed about being taken for fools along with everyone else when our neighbors start exclaiming, "Look, the pResident wears no clothes!" That way we won't come across as so arrogant as we share our "new" realizations that the WTO and corporate rule are basically the same thing as tax-cuts for the rich and contracts for Halliburton, except on a BIGGER scale.

Many thanks to all who have read or posted on this discussion! See you Thursday!
