Statement from Anarchist Prisoner Brian McCarvill
Statement from anarchist prisoner Brian McCarvill to the Break the Chains Conference (Eugene, OR, Aug. 8 - 10):
"I wish I were there with you. The camaraderie must be exhilarating, the hands-on personal interaction, the kaleidoscope of visual imagery, the realness of the revolutionary effort in practice."
COMBAT Dispatch / Statement to the Break the Chains Conference
[Brian is a radical social prisoner, who was recently involved in a lawsuit against the Oregon Department of Corrections, challenging their censorship and rejection of anarchist publications. The lawsuit was settled, but Brian was soon transferred to Two Rivers Correctional Institution as retaliation.]
Dispatch 108: Statement of Unity with Break the Chains and the August Anarchist Black Cross Conference
I wish I were there with you. The camaraderie must be exhilarating, the hands-on personal interaction, the kaleidoscope of visual imagery, the realness of the revolutionary effort in practice. Do not experience your festival lightly please. You are the revolution in motion. Your revolutionary impetus is the foundation of our resolve as prisoners. Your revolutionary verve, your continued struggle, makes us prisoners of war. Without your ongoing efforts we are only casualties. We refuse to be casualties, therefore you must fight!
What is a prison but an authoritarian island? In actuality we are not prisoners, we are comrades in exile. We are expelled from capitalist empire, from the solace and vibrancy of our sisters and brothers. It is important that you support us as you have been doing. Without your support our exile would be devoid of all meaning, a simple descent into madness. We thank you deeply, from our hearts, for your support.
Revolution dictates that you must do more than simply support us. Do not be deterred by our thirst for interaction, mail, visits, fundraising and the like. Revolution requires that you expend the bulk of your efforts, not on us, but in battling capitalist empirical civilization from black, green, and red perspectives. There are no distinct dividing lines between black, green and red concepts - that is what they are - concepts. The ideology is revolution, life-giving celebratory revolution. Do not allow us to become casualties of war, ensure that we become prisoners of war instead. We, in exile, are limited to theory and debate. You are charged with the destiny of revolutionary action. Act. Live. Flourish. Revolt.
Love and COMBAT -

The Break the Chains conference will be held Aug.8-10 at University of Oregon in Eugene. It is dedicated to fighting repression, supporting prisoners, and eliminating prisons altogether. By providing anti-prison education, building on existing prisoner support efforts, learning from veteran prison activists, and initiating new campaigns against the prison industrial complex, this conference is intended to initiate a new era of heightened prisoner support and anti-prison activism.
