Seismological Research Project Will Injure & Kill

A massive international (US/Canada/Japan) research project planned for late August off the coast of Vancouver Island will likely injure and kill marine mammals, fish, birds and turtles. A massive international (US/Canada/Japan) seismological research project is planned for late August and early September, 2003, off the south coast of Vancouver Island. This project will use an extremely large air cannon, firing at a volume of 243dB. We understand that this level is higher than the seismic tests in Baja that killed beaked whales.

See below for information on who to contact to request that this potentially deadly experiment be postponed until it is assured that marine life will be fully and appropriately considered.

A massive international (US/Canada/Japan) seismological research project is planned for late August and early September, 2003, off the south coast of Vancouver Island. This project will use an extremely large air cannon, firing at a volume of 243dB. We understand that this level is higher than the seismic tests in Baja that killed beaked whales (see below). Apparently very few people or agencies knew about this project until the past week. By all appearances, this project was greased along the review process with incomplete data and now is being hurried up to meet a very tight and fast-looming time frame. Severe trauma to marine mammals will almost certainly result from this project if it is allowed to continue as planned, including the Southern Resident Community of orcas which is listed as Depleted under the MMPA in the US and as Endangered under the SARA in Canada.

This information is being gathered by other researchers and projects that have less of an impact on ocean life.

Now they want to Ruin the Ocean

I Live here and it ain't pretty. There here as well as around the World. They are Spoiling the Land I was born in: HERE. I contributed to this Province almost all of My LIFE and I'm NOT going to stand for the Marine LIFE being tramatized for their LAMEbrained EXCUSES. They think they can do anything behind our backs, but they are sadly mistaken! Now I know now why I was thinking I would NOT buy hardly ANYTHING here about a couple of years ago. I was NOT treated good at all, at the time!!! So now they pull This STUNT. Lately, with all the issues I've seen happening all around the world and particularly in the U.S., I made up my mind to buy local hand crafted products instead of "big" business products as Much As Possible. I know the small businesses have nice owners and employees and I thought I wouldn't say this to anyone, but they are the ones that made the "police" here harass the homeless to get them off of the street. But there were NO Real Solutions - the "police" gave them tickets, knowing full well that they couldn't pay them! I read in the small paper here(reliable), that a woman that was partly paralysed in her legs couldn't get up very easy at all and couldn't get up when a pig approached her and HE GAVE HER A TICKET!! You know what I would do if I didn't live here(I may have some contact with them so I prefer not to say anything to them - I have a few other issues I work on), I would email them, walk into the store or phone them and say: mention that you heard of the homeless being harassed and downtown businesses are Responsible for this and you and your Friends want to see Real Solutions and when you see Real Solutions you and your Friends may start buying their Products. Just SAVE up your money, you'll need it for Basic Necessities for travel, food and water in the future, if it keeps going the way its going. I will go there to their homepage and organize with them when I have the time. Thank you.
