Anarchist Gardening and Gleaning Collective - weekend work party

AGG has been working on a garden project on a land trust in Oregon City. We are meeting this Saturday (June 12) at 4:30pm at the Star E Rose Café (2403 NE Alberta St).

Our main goal this weekend is to build a fence around the garden and do whatever general maintenance is needed. As time permits, there is always plenty to learn from and help farmer John with, work on art/ascetics around the garden, talk about out goals & ideas, and of course EAT!

As of now, the plan is to drive back Saturday night, but camping out is also an option for those can find another way back (bike and bus are always available).

Bring general work clothes, gloves, water, and food to share.

I hope to see you all there!

here is a recent update from the agg list:

Last weekend at mahonia was great. Without fencing materials there was not a whole lot to do around our garden. Kate and I spent most of friday helping john. We weeded some veggies and put wood chips around some potato plants. John gave us a tour showing us all the different things he has growing. John and Bev are both a wealth of information, it was great to work with them for the day.
On Saturday Shade and I cleared out the blackberries from behind the sun house where our garden is. That will make it much more accessible once the fence is up.
Since Shade and Cobalt will be out of town Michelle and I are planning to go out Wed. morning and water the garden. I'll be out of town this weekend so I won't be able to help with the fence. Hope you guys have fun.

peace

Anarchists need a fence? 11.Jul.2003 12:06

saywot

Isn't this whole concept a contradiction in terms?

I understood anarchists assert the right to go anywhere
and do anything they damn well please. Until it's their
ox being gored, of course.

Say it isn't so, you little black-wearing weenies ....

it should be obvious 11.Jul.2003 12:17

not a tv watcher

The nice people on tv are not going to actually explain what anarchism really is. They just want to frighten you into believing that anarchists want to take away your quality of life (like the native americans, the african americans, the jews, women, homosexuals, etc, etc, different time, different specter). If you want to actually understand anarchism you may actually have to read some books. Or maybe just show up at an event. Life is too short to wallow in ignorance; we must all learn to keep educating ourselves and exposing ourselves to new experiences and ideas. Life is hollow without change.

yes, a fence 11.Jul.2003 13:21

...

These anarchists need a fence so deer and other animals dont come and eat all of the plants before they can produce vegetables and afterwards. I dont think it is about keeping people out, but I am sure people enjoy the constant ribbing of anarchist ideals and living in a world where corporate dominance is the norm. Saywot, there are alternatives and I believe these people are attempting to explore them while you are continously buying into America. Do something instead of sitting there.
