Investigators: Driver Had Twice The Legal Limit

PORTLAND - A police report has revealed that the driver of the mini-van that struck and killed two bicyclists early Wednesday morning had a blood alcohol level that was more than twice the legal limit and that he was traveling faster than the posted speed.

Police said the driver, 49-year old Lindsey Llaneza, was headed west on SE Belmont when he swerved to avoid the first of four cyclists riding on the street.

Llaneza then struck the three other bicycle riders between SE 42nd and 40th Avenues.

------------

Records show Llaneza shouldn't have been on the road. He was in court this past Monday after pleading guilty to a previous drunk driving charge and his drivers' license had been suspended.

Why the police is not working at midnight beat 28.Jun.2003 17:52

Luis

It is sad and ridiculous that this police organizacion is putting manpower to watch ciclists on a ride at dawn or dusk i dont know when the critical mass happened ( I don't have a bike yet) buthow is it that they cannot catch a drunk M.F. driving in downtown, but they can follow and arrest a peaceful ciclist making a statement. (Right to speak???). Why they dont do a real job pursuing crime instead of being stupidly following riders around Portland. Is it that they have nothing else to do. Maybe they need to be send to a city with real crime like L.A. or D.C. or Baltimore. Where they will find criminals. Criminals dont ride on bike they head corporations like Enron or Verizon or Worldcom or Lewis and Clark University you name it and they are right there on the government. It is just sad that this city is wasting our money on following a statement by the ones that are PORTLAND. I love Oregon Luis P.S. Maybe we should try to enroll Lance Armstrong in critical mass.
