Victory in Sacramento

After the violent and unprovoked attacks on passive protesters outside the IMAX -- intended simply to clear us from the delegates' view -- about 60 of us regrouped on 11th and J and held a circle to decide what to do. We eventually decided to march in celebration (at peak around 120) down the streets past 12th and J back to the welcome center. Whose streets? Whose earth? Ours!
Today was a victory: we made it clear that the people of this country desire biotech no more than anyone else. Despite the violence they used to mask our efforts, our voices were heard! This is a renewal of our power not simply to resist, but to incarnate a new kind of world.

There is no victory if the WTO meetings are still going on. Just because your conscience feels better, it does not mean any positive change is occurring.

and just exactly who were your voices heard by? when a demonstration fails it makes alot more sense to critically evaluate why and plan / behave differently next time than to claim a blatantly false victory.

Really? 22.Jun.2003 21:39

John

I was there and I don't recall seeing anyone that was violently attacked. I saw the police tell people to leave, then a saw a bunch of people run down mall with their tails between their legs, except for about twelve that started yelling at the police.

Do the best you can do, and don't worry about the counterintel bullshit that was in the last three comments. By the words they used you can tell that they weren't even there themselves, which gives them absolutely no room to talk. Do your thing, and props to your for being there in the first fuckin place and rep'n P-town. Oh, and by the way; fuck riot cops.

Oh yeah, you guys who marched in Sacramento won big time. We all saw you on the nightly news gettin' your asses beat by the cops. Your message was heard loud and clear! The victory really goes to the police who can now more easily justify cracking skulls on those who block streets and participate in meaningless civil disobedience. If that's victory for you, your cause was totally meaningless in the first place. It's time to re-define your cause.

the mainstream, "right" wing owned media is only going to show the most extreme stuff. That is what sells commercial time.
